Hi All

I'm new to the Forum. I bought a new (to me) JTD 170 G and I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.

- My G is pretty well equipped (we don't have the veloce/lusso packages here but it would be the veloce one) but it has no sat nav (nor tomtom dock). I hear the TomTom B&B 2 live is pretty great but... can it be fitted into the dashboard compartment in some way? has anybody done it?

- Regarding tuning boxes. I'm not looking into a remap as I still have 2y warranty, but I was looking into tuning boxes. The problem for me is that continuously driving in D mode is a bit too expensive and uncomfortable (for the passengers, not for me :)) and from what I gather most boxes make the new N feel like the old D. Is there any way of making the tuned N a bit more peaceful?

- Any other advice performance tuning wise (suspension, brakes etc)?

Cheers

Ehhm what do you mean that in D mode it is uncomfortable for the passengers? D mode doesn't make the car either comfortable or uncomfortable, your driving does so even if you switch to N mode and drive the same its going to be equally uncomfortable for the passengers. Now about expensive you want your car to drive cheap but you want to add a tuning boxed? I mean those things don't go together.

I think he means D is more agressive in the way torque delivery is given as you accelerate compared to N.

As you know if you acclerate medium to hard in N your passengers don't get the same whiplash as D gives.

I'm guessing that he is after a tuning box or remap that leaves N the same as it is now, so he can drive economically when the mood suits and doesn't give his passengers neck ache and then when he is on his own he can slip it in to tuned D (D+)

I hope that is how i read it :)

Regarding the Tomtom 2 Blue & Me, the only way i can see working for you is to get a power socket fitted in to your upper dash storage box then get a standard tomtom 1000 mount and either stick it to your window or better still mount it inside the dash box.
This saves trailing cables down to the hand brake area.

You could then sell the Alfa tomtom dock on ebay to recoup the cost of the tomtom standard sucker mount.

It connects wirelessly to your car so you will get all the steering controls/dash display/ipod controls etc.

Hope this helps.

Edit:
page 2 of this may help

Regarding the tuning box you won't have a problem. The throttle response in N is so much more gradual that even if you fit a box that boosts torque, it is still easy to drive smoothly and not over-rev. You only really notice it in N if you move into the upper part of the rev range, or floor it. Plus it fixed the dead spot I had in third in the MA if I changed up too early.

Vulgi is right that regardless of the power, if you practice good throttle/clutch control you can drive pretty much anything smoothly. If you don't it'll be jerky and uncomfortable.

If you want the extra power, bite the bullet and go for it as in D the car just goes and goes right up the the rev limit. Zzoooooom! Good fun!

Regarding the B&M TomTom - @Alfred TI - Nice Link! I will try and convince my dealer to do that.

Regarding the N/D settings with a tuning box, thanks for the advice. I'm convinced. Ordering it right away.

Thank You
