Anyone got a gel battery in their car, can you recommend a stockist and let me know which model you have running. Are they a lot lighter? current one feels as heavy as a one of the alloy wheels. (In MelbGTV's thread about removing bits of the car, a gel battery was mentioned).

Left the radio on for a few days hence draining the battery. Think I made the mistake of waiting 2 weeks before taking it out for a charge. Now seems to not charge (the power eye stays clear/black even after 8 hours of charging).

Had the car 3.5 years and not changed the battery yet. Advantage of the battery in the boot means it stays warmer hence lasts longer.

Lesson learned : If the battery goes flat charge it straight away.

My ex's MX5 had a gel battery. It was about 7 years ago we had trouble with it. Replaced it with a normal acid cell battery. Tech may have moved on but I wouldn't buy another :(

It'll have sulphated ( lead sulphate will have crystalised on the lead plates ). It is possible to recover but it requires specialised equipment and can take a long time ( weeks ).

If you're any good with electronics, you can DIY. Info : Battery Desulfation - Storage
