2nd little niggle.... Clutch feels like its on its way out. i've got a 156 lusso 2.4 JTD (2001) i think ? What sort of money am i looking at for a new one ?

Also it's been chipped by the previous owner and i once heard something about putting an uprated clutch in the chipped one's to cope with the torque.... Any truth in this ? and what sort of money would that set me back ?

I paid 600 for a new clutch a few months ago, although the numties sant me away with the exhaust hanging off!

£500-600 sounds about right.

However there is a chance your dual mass flywheel may also need replacing.

These used to be seriously expensive, but have come down in price a lot.

IIRC they are now about £300

I was quoted 800 for a dmf by an indi, needless to say I went elsewhere.

Ok i didnt think it would be cheap. Right can anyone shed any light on an uprated clutch because the cars chipped ? or do they not exsist and even if they did is there any point ?

P.S these prices you've said above please tell me thats fitted ? and not just the part alone ?

I don't think you can get uprated clutches to be honest. I would certainly be wary of anything that claims to be uprated (especially if it is a techniclutch)

The above price I mentioned was fitted. A clutch itself will be around £150

£550 inc VAT is our price for a new clutch supplied and fitted.

We would check the DMF once it is stripped down and advise either to replace it or leave it depending on how worn it is. Driving with a slipping clutch is not good for the DMF, so if the clutch is slipping, change it sooner rather than later.

Sometimes the DMF can give slipping symptons even if the clutch is still operating properly. I always recomend changing the DMF on any car fitted with them at the same time as the clutch because it's virtually impossible to test them properly without a laboratory. I don't want to change them (it's a pain) but it's the only way I can offer a guarantee.

id steer clear of an up-rated clutch apparently there a bit harsh

Mine was 550 - and took ages to get done at the indie I went to, as they were apparently sent the wrong bits and had to redo the job. The garage I normally go to for servicing etc. said afterwards they could have done it for 450 or so - I felt like a right plonker for going to an Alfa 'specialist' for a job anyone could have done. Shop around!

Yep will do... Ah Auto lusso yeah i've popped in there before for some bits and bob's Right i will bear £550 in mind cheers.
