Hi just bought a 145 2.0 cloverleaf and i love driving it!! its fantastic!!
But i have a few problems!!
When the rpm goes over 3000 i get a red (!) come on and dont know what it is, anyone know what it is?? and how i fix it??

Also if you really drive it, the revs seem to get stuck at 2000 when idleing, is this the choke sticking??

you're really lucky to have the 2 ltr i have the 1.8 still fast enough. I've noticed the revs are high on idle in mine. It's ok. Spoke to an alfa mechanic Alberto in mossley, manchester. He's about 60 and all he'll work on is alfa's he used to service my 156. he said it's nothing to worry about, it's an alfa!!?!

Yes check that. If that's OK it will probably be the handbrake switch coming on. Both my old 145s used to do this - especially over bumps - when the handbrake wanted adjusting.

High revs and a red brake warning light might mean a split or broken vacuum hose that goes to the brake servo from the inlet manifold.

Are the brakes a little stiff to operate or can you hear a sucking sound from the engine bay?

The hose runs along the top of the bulkhead if memory serves me.

Hi there,
I am a new member and have just signed on today.
I have had my 145 cloverleaf for over 5 years. They are a great motor and generally very reliable.
I can also confirm that the warning light may mean it needs topping up with break fluid. this should sort it out but if problem returns there may be a leak from either braking system or the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

Curious, an induction leak such as Bodger suggests might lead to high idle, but why does he think it should put the fluid warnign light on ??
A leak form the master cylnder on some cars can end up being ingested through this pipe into the engine - No visible leak - Much scratching of head!!!

I agree that there shouldn't really be a link between fluid level and servo pressure but this is as close as you are going to get to a link between engine RPM and brake warning lights. They might be unrelated but I kind of like conspiracy theories when it comes to diagnosing faults.

I'm a bit partial to a consiparcy theory too! In this case, though, could it be to do with driving stlye? Slosh of the fluid in the reservoir when acclerating/braking/cornering hard will make the light flash when fluid level is near the lower limit but not low enough to put it on at a standstill. Does it do it at high RPM + constant speed e.g. on motorway (in Germany obviously)?

Checked the the clutch/brake fluid, it was fine, but there is a button on top of the reservior that resets the sensor, reset it and its fine, no more red light!!

My understanding was that the button was to test the bulb on the dash - at least in the days when a bulb was fitted. These days who knows!!?? Glad that it's solved!!
