I bought a 147 today on impulse at my local car auction . love the way it drives and I am sure that if it proves to be reiable then it could become a constant . However I do think that the steering linkage has excessive play . Will this prove to be an expensive repair ?
prob wont mind too much as I seem to have been very fortunate in the price I paid .

Rubbish Steering or rubbish gears? You mention both?

Steering faults/wear seem very rare on here for the 147, but sloppy gear change is very common - mine had this. Use the forums "search" facility and look for the phrase "gear selector plate" and this will sort you out.

The worn part is likely to be the linkage that sits under the battery - an easy fix/swap, and the new part is very cheap.

my mistake . dont know why ah mention steering . . . . . not had a drink in months . Was the gear linkage. thanks 4 the advice Lotus , a bit of a load off .
