Hi All,

I think the time has eventually come! Two 09's went up on carzone there and the black is the one I wanted but diesel and the blue one is a diesel!

To be honest the only thing that is putting me off is do I really need diesel? I don't do a lot of mileage only around the summer time when I take a few trips down to Wexford.

Are 1.8 MPI engines ok? I don't even know what MPI stands for as I know nothing about cars. The reason I want diesel is because fuel last longer the tax yearly is more less under €200 compared to the petrol and finally diesel would sell quicker when it comes to trading it in.

Here is the link to the car I'm interested in buying.
Alfa Romeo 159 1.8 MPI SPORTIVO - FULL LEATHER - NCT 06/15 Petrol 2009 Saloon for sale in Dublin 12 €11,900

Thanks for any advice you give.

Daniel

I seem to remember hearing that the 1.8 is gutless.

I think you've answered the duel question already (diesel).

It's just finding the right one/right colour.

You been patient saving for it so don't dive in unless it's the one you really want....

The 1.8 was an old GM engine that went into Opels etc. and is waaaay to underpowered for a heavy car like the 159, that's why my preference would be the older 1.9 JTS engine that the 159 first had. That said I believe the MPI is more reliable.

Pop over to the 159 and have a look there, I am sure there will be a thread comparing the two engines

What GT?

Hello All,

Pure newbie here. I'm going to go for GT 1.9 diesel. I reckon I'll spend 6K. I haven't a clue about the difference between the below models or even what I should be looking for.
If any one can advise I'd be grateful. Never belonged to a forum either so I may even need guidance to find your replies. I couldn't be a newer newbie but i definitely am a passionate convert:
Alfa Romeo GT 1.9 SPORTIVO 3DR Diesel 2006 Hatchback for sale in Dublin 24 €6,950

Alfa Romeo GT DIESEL JTD FSH SAT NAV SPOTLESS NCT 02/15 Diesel 2005 Coupe for sale in Dublin 12 €6,995

So one has leather and the other doesn't. Anything else????

Again welcome to AO

The 06 GT as well as having leather also has the 18" optional alloys which look great but they are more prone to kerbing as well as buckling, some people also find they give more of a harsh ride the but tyres will also have an impact on that.

The 05 GT has lower miles, it has 17" alloys, it probably doesn't have leather as it isn't mention so it'll have Alfatex (Alfa's version of micro-fibre) which is very comfortable & I prefer it over leather. It also has the optional built in Sat Nav & as with many inbuilt sat navs it doesn't get great reviews & most people would recommend an aftermarket one as it'll be more user friendly etc so I wouldn't let that be a reason for choosing the car.

Another thing to look out for on GTs is that the sills haven't been damaged by someone jacking them in the wrong place, there's an arrow or triangle indicating
where they should be jacked but the actual jacking point is further in on the chassis rail.

There's also plenty of useful info & advice in the Tech Lounge also if you need it Alfa 147, 156 & GT - Alfa Romeo Forum

Hope that helps.
