Well with the 147 getting on and Alfa not making a replacemnet in time, and even the MiTo over a year away, I am now in need of a second car, well in reality I need a 'first' car ....
I would have replaced the 147 with a GT but I am too fat to fit in the seats it seems and am not a fan of the "big" 159 or the Brera...
so it leaves me it seems to buy the new Volvo C30 2.4 petrol my neice has just won.....  :cheese:

Just keep driving the 147, unless it's broken. That way you can save your pennies so that when the Mi.To or 149 are available, you can afford one with nice leather seats!:cheese:

For inspiration, look to American Alfisti - they have no option but to try and keep running 75s and GTV6s and 164s, dreaming of the day when Alfa will come back to save them from Pontiac Azteks and Dodge Nitros.
"After owning a ‘93 164 for over 10 years, the radiator needed replacement. I performed the job at night with the toolkit from the trunk in about an hour.

After 12 years and neglect of the timing belt I tore the engine down and put it back together myself- only to send the heads out for new valves. All this to just hear it growl once more.

After 14 years the fuel lines off the submersable fuel pump needed replacement. I performed that job in a couple of days.

Not bad for a lawyer with no prior training on fixing cars. It shows smartness and simplicity in design rather than my meager skills or unreliability. In my opinion other than being front well drive, the ‘93 164 felt better than a 98 BMW M3.

Ultimately the car succumbed to the ravages of northeast winters and heavy road salt. The unibody failed. Her name was Victoria.

What other brand of car can evoke such passion?

With the requirement to be able to travel 600 kms or more from the nearest dealer at a moments notice, it becomes a worry as your car gets older, especially when towns that cannot fix your car are few and far between....I will be keeping the 147 and will get a MiTO GTA 1.8 or a 149 when they arrive, but that is nearly 2 years away.....

Well I now have the Volvo 30 2.4i which sits in the weahter whilst the Alfa 147 2.0 snuggles up in it's own private garage...

Volvo drives very well so far. Not as eager as the 147 and the engine noise , is not as good as the 147 but not to bad .

Likes.
1) Driving position
2) Stubby precise gear shift
3) Seat comfort...as good as the 147....wish the GT had as good seats ;)
4) Decent brakes unlike the 147 before I put on decent Aftermarket discs and pads
5) Excellent ride handling compromise unlike the bouncy 147 (before I put on Koni adjustables) ..well it is based on the Ford Focus chassis and Fork do a very decent job of making excellent handling cars that can cope with the bumps
6) I can actually read the intruments with my 'long distance' glasses on....
7) Car is set up as a 4 seater only rather than a suedo 5 seater.
8 Resonable looking engine bay and a decent size petrol engine (2.4 x 5 cylinder)

Dislikes.
1) Much more 'plasticky' inside compred to the original 147
2) Getting into the rear seats due to the stupid seat system which does not go back to original position when you reset the seat.
3) Rear lugage compartment does not have a decent cover as standrd. Only a floppy cover and the optional 'hard cover' has only a tiny opening into a shallow boot.
4) Its a "bloody Volvo"

Photos..taken with my Toy Canon TX1 and then shrunk......yes I knw, the top floor of a car park is not the most salubrious place ;)

He I quite like the looks of the Volvo, well only that one:lol:
And if it was cheap go for it - Oh you did, well done.
I think the burning question must be "How did your neice win it?"
And she could of given it to her fave Uncle:lol: Now she'll be taking driving lessons in your 147 as you now owe her, and maybe even expecting it as a gift.....

Remember, just 'cos you drive a Volvo, you don't have to be a Volvo driver:cheese:
