My rant starts here....
Some may remember, I got rear ended in my Mrs commuter in March, my insurer at the time was A.Flux, My renewal was coming up soon, it was due in April. The crash was all settled and paid for as it was the other drivers fault, My renewal came through the door at nearly 1/3rd more than I paid last year, So I get on the phone, call A Flux to see what the eck was going on, They said I had my no claims taken away as I was involved in a crash, I went bright red with Anger as this wasn't my fault, I managed to find out that it was an error on the system, They said it would be rectified and a new renewal would be sent through.....
To date, I only received the NCB certificate yesterday after nearly 4 months, They said it was because somebody in Admin forgot to press a button, They made me call my underwriters a total of 23 times, I call A.flux a total of 31 times, 8 letters by recorded delivery, 13 emails with not a single reply for them to say it was an error.

It also gets worse, I took out a new policy with Fluxdirect as it was £400 cheaper than last year, They wanted proof of my NCB which my deadline is today (received a cancellation letter saying policy ends 5th) Ive been faxing them and calling, but same response, no answer, no response to faxes, Funnily enough it's all part of the same company!!!!

If they can't do anything for me today by the end of 8pm, I'm calling up another insurer, And i'll be Livid if they send me a letter saying I need to pay the remaining money on the policy!!!!

End of Rant :)

I have been there and done that. I am lucky that I can now afford a main steam insurer. When I had to just grab the cheapest quote I used the Alfa club broker and it was a nightmare. Months for any thing to be resolved, so many phone calls, a written off 164 on the drive for 10 months, no cheque for months on end etc etc

You get what you pay for I'm afraid, but with insurance at the sky high cost, we will all gamble on the cheapest and just pray we don't need them.

I just remember the days when Insurance was more personal with a customer, you would get a tailored quote not totalling more than the value of the car.....
I finally got hold of FluxDirect, they had an error this time, Apparently they did receive all my paperwork, No one bothered to press a button so I got an auto letter to cancel my policy????
Judging by the feedback I've seen, Flux aren't doing too good from what I can see on the Alfa Forums!

Sorry to here of your grief, Flux are now on my list of "not to even think about ever".

Mine's with More Than, for the sole reason of cheapness, as their customer service people are hopeless when trying to buy a policy, hope I never need to make a claim!

I just tried to take up a quote for the GTV with MoreThan. They took the same attitude as you do when the phone rings half way through dinner. The first operator cut me off, the second several hours later told me she couldn't find my quote details and could I call back later.
So, Susan from Mumbai, suffice to say, I didn't bother.
Oh, and you can also add Footman James to the list of muppets.

Hi Dave, if it makes you feel any better, i was involved in a non-fault accident when some gipe rear ended me and would not not admit responsibility!
Anyways, at my renewal i was quoted a 50% higher premium than i had paid the previous year for the same car!? I asked why was my premium so high? and they told me (Nov2010)that everyone's premium was up by about that amount at that time! I literally said "BullSh*t" and she then told me it was because i had been involved in an accident, i said but, it was a non-fault accident and she told me it didn't matter!!!!!!!!??? At the time i could not get a cheaper quote elsewhere.:(

Insurance companies in my experience are a complete and utter joke until you get to speak to the right people within them, unfortunately you need to spit the dummy with them a few times.

They're a complete joke, I'm now worried about if I ever have an accident again, it will be the same long winded process with ''System Errors'', No chance of Compo, they hadn't responded to the previous 13 email complaints I sent in! Funnily enough, I got an email this evening asking for me to complete a customer satisfaction survey!!! Imagine how good my french was ;)
I know it's not the guys who handle the calls, they're just earning their living, it's the f&&kers at the top of the hierarchy who think they can make these new rules, premiums etc, Car accidents are in decline due to safer cars, better brakes, new speed limits etc so I don't see how they have the right to hike prices, I know times are hard due to just getting out of the recession but for fvcks sake what's going on in the UK!!!

I wonder how much of this grief we are all experiencing at renewal is due to the insurers having to fund the uninsured drivers ? We seem to be in a vicious spiral, higher premiums , more uninsured drivers , higher premiums for the ever diminishing insured drivers

Could well be, I hate seeing the police out with Cameras but It does feel kind of good to know they'll hopefully pick up some little scroat for no insurance, It's the most important part of driving a car!
The amount of 'pond life' I hear bragging about driving with no insurance at work does my head in, Sometimes, I just feel the keyboard should be used as a weapon instead of a peripheral!!!

Hi guys. I would suggest that you have a read of Auto Express's article on insurers. They do awards each year for the insurers. NFU Mutual has come 1st every year since it started, the other top 5 have always been the same RIAS and SAGA for the over 50's, I think LV is still there and Royal Sun Alliance. RSA is for their higher end policies not More Than which is futher down the order. Out of these insurers only LV is a non-niche insurer. NFU Mutual is a very old style insurer with lots of small offices throughout the country who probably only have less than 10 people in them, it also means you can go and see them! However, they target countryside risks so certain areas will not be able to get insurance.

You have to be very careful when shopping around for insurance, be wary of the compulsory and voluntary excess, as they are very good at not telling you the compulsory excess. I would always have legal expenses too.

I am quite biased in this as I run an NFU Mutual agency!

I know NFU's customer service is good, as I have a pension policy, but they won't touch a GTV, even with my light use (3K miles tops) and 15 years no claims!

More Than is RSA's direct brand, it's offering the same policies (as far as I can determine) as a traditional broker could sell you branded RSA, but cheaper (and with feckless cretins on the phones!). Also, every year the renewal goes up, but punching my details in to confused results in the identical policy a good 10- 12 % cheaper. Every year!

You won't get good service from Flux because they're owned by Admiral, who is in turn owned by the nearly bankrupt RBS. They are famous for not paying out or making derisory offers. Also it is becoming common practice to load customers for non fault claims as they then think they're more likely to make another. There is some evidence to suggest this is the case for certain types of accidents.

Also insurers are too bone idle to go after the insurance cheats that stage accidents. They just keep paying out Along with bogus whiplash and other injuries. If you don't end up in hospital you shouldn't need any compensation whatsoever.

I also know of someone that has an insurance paid for hire car for 5 months because the useless twits can't sort out an adequate repair because the at fault third party retracted their initial take of the blame so they started arguing. They've now decided to write off the car!! Stupid morons have been paying out nearly £300 a day on car hire. I also had a non fault claim and the claims company I had to put up with were the most unhelpful and patronising tossers I've ever had to deal with. The insurer themselves wouldn't deal with the claim. They could have saved themselves hundreds by not using these idiots.

The comparison sites are also owned by major insurers so they're not always entirely the best choice.

For some reason my spider is more expensive to insure this year than my previous modified nissan skyline and more expensive than my modified integrale is this year!! Beggars belief.

Crazy I know luckily never had to claim but some of the companies you call certainly scare you with there attitude when you ring for a quote I have my truck with NFU and there service is superb (I have heard it is still good if you have to claim) but unfortunately they are not competitive with sports or similar otherwise I would no doubt use them for everything hope you get sorted in the end

Even if you have been involved in a no fault accident, Insurance company's still put your premium up because they take the view, that the fact you've been involved in an accident, means your more likely statistically to be involved in another.
