hi everyone,

hope you all had a good new years, ive been saving for a while now and have been looking at some of the options to make my 2.0 T.S. (Y reg) into a real monster.

so far on my done list is full exhaust system (down pipes, sports cat the whole lot) SS ofcourse. CDA induction kit. and the diffence is rele good already. im in the process of getting upgraded pads and dis'c all round.

the real thing i need help with is the more expensive options, the obvious one to turn a TS into a animal is the AD supercharger. but wondered if for the same sort of money other tuning companys could produce more or the same amount. the power out put im looking for is about 260-280 BHP and quite a bit of torque. as i have a friend with a honda civic 1.6 with just under 300 BHP and i want the GTV to give him a good race.

P.S. no funny people suggesting a V6. :tut: its not helpful as they are to nose heavy! and im keeping my twinny!!!

thanks for any imput or suggestions Sean.

Hi Sean,

Its possible - alfaracer156 has a TS with 278 BHP

I imagine you'd need to strengthen the bottom end with that kind of power though

Not sure he would matt, the maths on my 1968 daimler v8 crankshaft said it would take 2,000bhp (standard 140bhp) not exactly comparing eggs with eggs there i know.

I think you would be better off loosing the TS engine and fitting the engine and box form a Fiat Coupe 20V turbo. The front end of both cars are similar so it wouldn't be too difficult.

I can imagine it would also be cheaper than trying to turbo a TS, and more reliable.

turbo turbo turbo turbo.
nice idea gdaf, but i would rather go for a Supercharger. less lag and the power is more gradual and then i will get more traction at low speeds. :D

the thing is the 20V block is based upon the 2.4JTD tractor engine (AFAIK) so is probably pretty heavy in comparison to the twinny ...

You could give Adie a call AH Motorsports as he seems to do some TS parts ... he's more than capable of fitting a Turbo ...

... if you can get hold of a 2.0V6 Turbo engine they fitted to the GTV Cups on the continent then that would be a bloody good starting point

The 20VT engine installation weighs about the same as a Busso V6, although the 20VT engine on its own weighs not a lot more than a TS engine.

The extra weight comes from the Turbo, cast manifold, intercooler and all the extra pipework etc. The gearbox is also a lot heavier than a TS item.

I'm sure Gus will be along in a minute ... but that to me sounds like BS (sorry)

Doh!, why didn't i think of that!:), ....yeah i saw a top fuel dragster using the same engine as my old v8-250, asked what mods he had done and the only change (apart from all the blower bits of course) was to fit tr6 flat top pistons, i asked about the crank and he said it was mathematically good for 2,000bhp, his dragster was making 1,400bhp, talk about over engineered!.

Dunno where you're going with this one Sean? The Autodelta Supercharger is the guts of £4,700  and supposedly gives you 230Bhp. Presumably to get near your figure of 260-280 you are also going to need new cams along with all the mods you've already done, so let's throw another couple of grand on top to get that done. Now you have a twinnie in the spec you want and it's cost you the price you paid, plus another 7-8 grand......

It's your money dude and you could spend it on far worse things than a car, but for nearly 10K I would be looking at M3/Z3 Coupes with 321Bhp out of the box. Obviously when you decide to move the car on eventually the mods will add about 2p to the resale value, but hey like I said it's your money and I'm sure there are Nova's and Escorts out there that have had 20K+ spent on them. I look forward to seeing a GTV in Max Power soon (I don't normally buy it but I would make an effort to see this). I guess the only question remaining is Pink or Brown? ;)

Hi the 278 from my engine required lots of work and money. Steel crank, special rods, pistons, cams, machining on head and block. All remapped on rollers. It is only for my race car. Mike

All this effort to be quicker than a Civic . Dont worry about it dude should be plenty quick enough , who cares about beating your mate in a super dulll Honda shopping car just remind youre self how rare and pretty the GTV is , sure it would be nice for it to be super quick , BTW have you thought about about getting a decat pipe ?

Sean, have u got any info on fast flow cats in comparison to de-catting, i'm about to de-cat mine, if theres not much difference i may as well go for a fast flow and save having to "re-cat" (new technical term born there) once a year.
