I just thought I'd take a moment to share my recent modifications and recommend some parts and suppliers.

I bought my 159 1.9 JTDm Lusso about three weeks ago. It was exactly the colour combination I wanted (black bodywork with biscuit/natural leather) and it had FSH, 112,000 miles. I paid £4800.

However, I had seen a lot of pictures of the 2.4 Ti models whilst looking around and LOVED the look of the larger wheels and lowered suspension so I started looking around at aftermarket bits and bobs.

I found a nice set of 19" TI alloys (with Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres) for £675 locally. I fitted them to the car but of course the car looked a little silly - it needed to be lower.

I looked for lowering suspension kits on ebay and found these on ebay for £229. I wasn't 100% sure about buying an unnamed brand but thought I'd give it a go. If the shocks were rubbish I could still use the springs. When the kit arrived I was very pleased to see FK markings on the springs and shocks! They all had FK code numbers on which corresond to the FK suspension kits on sale for a lot more than £229! The shocks and springs are now fitted and the car sits perfectly on its new wheels. It also rides very nicely. Not too firm, just surefooted and reassuring. Not crashy or harsh like other aftermarket suspension I've had in the past. Perfectly livable with. I'm very happy.

I looked around for TI skirts next to complete the look. I found a couple of breakers who wanted far too much for skirts and then found this supplier on Italian ebay. They arrived quickly and are a very snug, neat fit. They're plastic (not fibreglass) and my local spray shop said they were great. Not bad for £124 a pair. They're costing me £60 to get sprayed and I'm picking them up this Saturday.

Once the skirts are fitted (along with a pair of nice chrome mirror backs and some nice TI badges I picked up) it should look the business.

I'll post up some before and after pics tomorrow. I'm very pleased and the car looks so much better now than before. Very smart without looking "kitted up" or chavvy. Like a TI that just rolled out of the showroom. Well nearly....

Nice one, I did consider this route of buying a cheap 159 and spend the money making it look like a Ti. But then I decided it was too much hassle and too big a job especially for the interior.

Now all you've got to do is:
Change interior to Ti heated leather sports seats
Change dashboard to dark brushed alloy
Change clocks to Ti spec
Change pedals to alloy
Add Ti sill covers

Uprate engine power
Red brembo brake calipers

And finally the 2.4's benefit from having twin exhausts ;)

Congratulations, that's the way to have an affortable loving car TI.
I am also considering following your way. Could you post us some pics please?
By the way, which braker is selling the TI side skirt?

Yes. It'll never be an actual Ti. To be honest I couldn't afford the fuel bill of a 2.4 with the miles I cover. I know there are later 1.9 Ti's but I definitely can't afford one of those (all still nearly 20k I think)!

If a Ti interior came up at a reasonable price I would consider it, but its not something I'm looking for at the moment. I'm not going to be tampering with dials either but I may consider Brembo brakes in the not too distant future and they are something I'm keeping an eye out for.

As for the power, I'm probably going to get the dpf removal and remap done in the next few weeks. I'm still doing my homework on the subject and I have a place in mind to get booked into.

I'd also like a double-exit exhaust. Again, something to save up for...

By the way, this has added virtually nothing to my insurance. Adrian Flux gave me an excellent policy with all mods declared including an agreed extra £40 premium when I get the remap done.

The breaker of the Ti is this bloke on ebay He wanted £200 for one that was intact and £50 for a damaged one off the other side. Was £275 with delivery . No thanks.

A spoiler? - never going to happen.

I'll post up some before and after pics later.

A great plan. Cheaper car, a few hours of work, reasonable amount of work and bet you have a cracking looking car.
Looking forward to the photos.

Spoilers, just say no.

Here's some pics.

The first two are the pictures from the ebay ad when I bought the car (the only "before" pics I have) and the last three were taken today.

No side skirts on yet though. I'm picking those up in the morning.

Very nice

Looks just like mine (the before pics) Black, with the same alloys and Tan leather

Would you say the ride is better than before? it's one think that has put me off the lower suspension and 19's

Thanks.

The ride is little firmer than before but nowhere near as firm as I thought it would be. It just feels taut and purposeful. Absolutely no harshness or crashiness. Highly recommended and a total bargain!

Wow the wheel change really does make such a difference. You need the sideskirts fitted now to complete the aggresive stance

Looks great - sits very nice. Looking forward to seeing it with side skirts but to be honest it gets away without them as it is black.

By the way I think you have misunderstood the Ti market - 1.9Ti here with only 6k miles for £13950:

ive gone down a similar route

ive been looking for a good set of shocks and springs and the ones uve used look the business so ill prob go down the same way, im not sure about the side skirts though something to think on though :)

i started with the brembos and larger alloys, i went for the 18inch multi spokes over the TI 19s due to tyre costs but imo both look good.
im on the look out for a TI wheel and leather and ofc the rear double back boxes if and when i can find a good priced one second hand or BN.
