I'm going to do a bit of work on my GTA.
Can anyone please firstly let me know if it is worth getting a laptop reader system so I can reset the airbag light...I assume these things are used with laptops??(connector under driver seat needs soldering I think) also the alarm is temperamental....plus whatever other reason may come up to save me a trip to the dealer....

If there is a link anywhere on here or anywhere with info about this as I'm a complete novice on this...

Also please a link where to buy with whatever leads may be needed.

Any advice/pointers gratefully received.

Also, I want to try my hand at changing the power steering pump. I have the new pump and 2 litres of fluid...is there a laptop based workshop manual that would be helpful....or should I just plough on taking it all apart and finding my way...? I suppose I want to make sure the system is drained/filled/bled completely so I don't knacker the new pump for lack of fluid/air in system.

Thanks!

Definitely worth getting either Multi Ecu Scan (or alfadiag) and the leads.
If you have a 147 GTA I'd get an ELM cable and adapters, something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-FIAT-DIAGNOSTIC-LEAD-CABLE-ADAPTOR-MULTIECUSCAN-FIATECUSCAN-ELM-v1-4-OBD2/262322736676?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3D7cc09d902fa24228b0ee551cf31615db%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D161715574443
If its a 156, Rarebear I think can still do modified KKL cables which would avoid the need for adapters. The elm cable is needed for the body computer, service reset etc on the 147.

Mutiecuscan is the best 50 euro tool you can buy. An absolute "no brainer" if you are fixing Alfas.

Workshop manual - I've just found this with some advice on this thread:

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-gta/957306-ignition-wiring-diagram.html

Looking at my download history I got it from here:

DTE-Manuale-Tecnico-Dofficina---Alfa-Romeo-156.iso | Uloz.to

(make sure your virus checkers are up to date). Follow the svgview advice in the linked thread, and you're good. Interface is a bit clunky, but it works)
