For 159/Brera you only need a GREEN adapter - it allows you to connect to ABS and Xenon headlights. Good ELM327 scanner is a must! Otherwise you may need more than one additional adapter..

 

You can go to "VEHICLES" on their website. All the necessary additional adapter for each supported model is mentioned there. (red A1 in your case)

 

So, an ELM327 usb scanner and a green obd adapter cable coupled with the software and I'm golden?

 

For MES I got this kit USB Modified ELM 327 lead & 6 adaptor set Works With MultiEcuScan V4.8 | eBay
and paid the €50 for MES from their site Multiecuscan - Diagnostics software for Italian cars
So far never had to use any of the coloured connectors, only the ELM327, I have reset the service/oil change, read/cleared EML faults, and reset the faults on the cruse control system. So works fine so far.

Wait what? You need different cables for all the module? Kinda fishy...

 

It's quite simpel
Usually the elm327 module just has 2 fysical can lines, that are meant to connevt to f.i. engine ECU
A number of the other ECUs in the car, such as f.i. ABS, climate control etc are connected to different CAN networks, that end up on different pins of the car OBD connector.
The coloured adapter cables are simple crossconnects, connecting the pins of one CAN system to the CAN pins of the elm adapter.....

The adapter above comes with all the cables, so means it's not just alfa.

Also works out cheaper buying that full set than the individual connectors.

 

IIRC I can reach all modules with ELM and AlfaOBD app. Not sure though, need to check. And my car is MiTo, so that might be crucial also...

 

According to MES, there are quite a number of ECUs on the mito that would require the yellow adapter cable .....

 

So on a Brera AlfaOBD app + ELM would only be able to access, say, the engine control unit?
