All,

I always buy my cars when they are one year old or so, save me some depreciation and no need to wait for delivery (instant gratification!).

That's the perfect buying point for a late 155 or an early 170 QV.

The way I see it, the 155 will be cheaper to buy, saves me some insurance, and no stop/start, and probably enough power for me. The 170 is newer and more powerful, probably easier to sell later on.

Any other major pros and cons for each car? Any thoughts?

Did build quality improve from 155 to 170? Reliability? Did anything else change? What about the quality of the paint?

And probably a very important question - which one sounds better? In this day and age of cameras where you can't enjoy a car's power, at least we can enjoy a car's sound!

Thanks!

Well I've driven a 155 but never owned one. Before I had my QV I owned a 95bhp MITO for about twelve months, so have a good basis for comparison to an earlier model.

Build quality? Pretty much exactly the same I'd say. No noticeable difference.

Pros? Better fuel efficiency with 170 and cheaper tax, new technology that works very well. Also, the ride quality is much improved due to the adaptive dampers.

Cons? Can't really think of any. The technology is relatively new but doesn't appear to have any issues whatsoever.

Sound? QV sounds very nice. A lovely burble (gets better with more mileage) and a nice bassy sound under load. I suspect that some may wish to put cone filters/panel filters on the car to help improve the sound somewhat, though. Something that doesn't interest me if I'm honest.

I think performance wise they're roughly the same, I've driven both and it's difficult to really feel the difference in every day driving and both sound very similar. Power delivery is VERY different though.
Still, If I was in your position, I'd save that tiny bit more and get the QV, purely for the adaptive suspension. cos the 155TB suspension is pretty harsh on broken roads.

Thanks for the thoughts. What about the stop/start? Better with or without? From what I hear, it sounds a bit obtrusive?

If performance is the same and the 155 apparently even sounds a bit better, then I am split - QV has the better suspension, but 155 has no start/stop.

Also some people mentioned that later Mito's have improved steering?

Engine wise, I still maintain the 155 is the best of the bunch but the QV's suspension makes it a better car:)

The adaptive suspension is an optional extra on the QV in SA, does it come standard in the UK?
I prefer the interior of the 155, the roof and A-pillars are a cream/white colour, and the steering wheel has a silver coloured insert, while the QV has black roof and A-pillar lining and a black insert on the steering wheel which feels a lot more sombre to me. I also much prefer the chrome details on the 155 to the titanium finish on the QV.
I have driven them back to back at a track day, and the QV had the adaptive suspension, and I must say that it really did make a difference on track, but I doubt you'll notice much in the real world. The power delivery in the QV is more linear than the 155's turbo kick/lag feel.
Either way, a great car!

You can turn the stop/start off if needs be, but it rarely works anyway

Yeah standard on UK spec Mitos.
And yes, the QV feels very 'un-turbo'. It feels like a naturally aspirated car - smooth power delivery and no lag. I quite enjoy the turbo kick from my 155TB though. haha
The best way to decide is to drive them back to back.=]

I think The 155TB the better car, from what I have read, and for the reasons given.

I`m afraid I just dont like the standard ride height, its far to high, and spoils the look of the car, hence I`ve lowered mine.

This subject is always debateable and normally gets the anti modding brigade on a

As has been said, try and drive both.

Best of luck
