Hi guys. I joined this site when i got myself a beautiful 147 2.0 three weeks ago, unfortunately i need your help and advice already!

Today i started the car after being parked for 5 minutes and recieved a 'Motor control system failure' light. Having scoured this forum I think that this error can cover quite a few different errors so i thought i'd provide as many symptoms as possible. If anyone thinks they have any idea what it might be and roughly how much to fix that'd be much appreciated.

The warning light stays on constantly, it isn't flashing. The car will drive and the engine seems to be normal, but after i start the car sometimes i have no throttle control, i'll press the accelerator pedal but the engine will continue to idle. This seems to clear up after restarting the car and giving it 5 minutes. As the engine seems to perform as normal, i.e it revs as usual, i figure it's an electrical fault.

What do you reckon guys?

Would be best to get it hooked up to some sort of fault reader (preferably the Alfa/Fiat Examiner system) and see what it say's. Could be almost anything otherwise, we're just guessing.

I have had the same message this morning. In fact my 147 could not decide which todays most importnant message was, that of my regular fog light problem.

Booked in to the garage tomorrow for an appointment with the scanner.

Wow i see I'm not the only one with the almost everyday fog light failure bulletine. I also get the rear number plate light failure every now and then eventhough the damn thing is working.

I have this message up on my car since yesterday, but there doesn't appear to be any fault, everything works and it drives as normal.

Is there anyway to reset this without a trip to the dealer?

Cheers

Hi guys,

I had this fault on my 156 - the car didnt start, left it five mins and then it started, then displayed motor control fault - but drove as normal.

Im defo no expert but i believe this warning can come on for many reasons.
After having my car code read it was the crankshaft sensor failing. Have has this replaced now - all appears fine.

The motor control fault on the display did clear itself later each day, but think that was because the sensor was only failing - and had not completely failed.

Think the only way you will know what the problem is, will be to have it code read - ive had mine done twice, first go was £25, next garage was £35....doesnt have to be a dealer - the £25 garage was a local tyre and exhaust place, £35 was at a Fiat/Alfa specialist (not a dealer).
