Here is the prob. (Yes more of them - I'm going to have to go and beat the previous owner for not looking after her!!)

Started the car this morning and the engine only idled at about 600 rpm. It is wavering up and down slightly and feels pretty lumpy. If your sat in the car not moving you can feel it gently shaking the whole car.

It also seems to have lost power. Prevoiusly you could just bung it in sixth at around 30/40 mph and it would still pull. Now it seems jerky and seems to stutter. It also does this from pull away. Very strange if not slightly disconcerting, as it had been perfectly smooth until this morning.
It had normally idled at around the 1000 rpm mark.
Anyone any ideas??

PS it is the 3.0L V6 model if that makes a difference

How does it sound when revving? Does it sound ok? Is it noticable that you've lost power when setting off? Have you had any sort of symptoms in the past few days at all? Does it just sit at 600rpm all the time or do you find that it runs ok, then settles down to 600? Just thinking it could be similar to mine in a way! But don't know if something could just go overnight.

When you start the car from cold sits at about 1000rpm for a couple of seconds then drops down to around 600. Then sits there pretty much permenantly on 600 wavering around - plus or minus a hundred revs or so.
It doesnt rev smoothly it seems coarse and a little juddery.
Did have the two sections of exhaust pipe from manifold down replaced recently(Was two months ago though). The lambda sensors are fitted to them, so could be the first place to look i guess.
Don't want to replace them unnecessarily as there are two on the V6.... £££ ouch!!

really sorry to read your woes.
Its aweful when your pride and joy keeps throwing problems at you; its a bit like when a child chucks up over you :- you love them to bits and you wish they weren't ill but it does frustrate the hell out of you!

UPDATE:
Had the car on diagnostics today. It seems to be a faulty knock sensor that is causing the problems. Apparently there are four on the V6??
It is retarding the ignition so giving the stuttering effect and lack of power. Depends which sensor it is as to how complicated it is to fit the new one.
Easiest one is about an hours work most difficult is five hours.
Fingers crossed it is the easy one
