Mito footrest killing my hip

Bought my 2016 Mito 1.4 Auto twin air (RHD) last November and love it.

But a couple of weeks of high mileage, doing about 3000 in that time, has destroyed my left hip. Only realised it was the car causing this yesterday when I noticed having my left foot on the footrest was lifting my left leg off the seat, making me sit lopsided.

I've looked for a lower footrest (I'm 6'1") or at the possibility of removing it but haven't found any answers.

Does anyone have any experience of this and found a way to sit properly?

Just stick your head down there and see what's happening. The footrest could just be placed on top of the floor/firewall in which case there is not much you can do.

Truth is driver comfort for long distance travelling for tall people was probably quite far down the list when they designed this car. It is after all a small car. Just take more breaks when travelling long distance, or consider a different vehicle.
I'm finding the same with my Panda, short term I have shimmed out the front of the seat with penny washers by about 8mm to support more of my thigh - I'm not overly tall, but stupidly long-legged.

This is about as much as I could do with the standard bolts, and still have enough thread to be secure, if you're prepared to find some longer bolts, you could have some shims machined up to suit.

After 2 and a bit years though, time for me to move on to something a little larger and more practical.

Yeah, there is no long distance driver comfort in a Mito. I find the steering wheel (qv tct) hurts my thumbs, and after a few years of 300 mile round trips once a week I realised what had triggered the arthritis in my thumb joints. Never had this with other cars. I should cover the wheel with some padding, but I don't drive it much now.

I always remember reading road tests of Italian cars years ago and the typical comment was about the 'Italian ape' driving position: Long arms, but short legs. For once in my life I guess I'm lucky judging by these comments as I find mine is OK for me on the few longer trips I've done in it, since I'm obviously an Italian ape. :D Admittedly mine was bought for mainly local trips and we take my wife's car for longer ones, but occasionally I might need to go further afield in it as I use it to take my band gear to gigs.

Not sure removing the foot rest will make much difference as it's not really very thick. Does yours have a seat height adjustment? Perhaps counter intuitive, but raising the seat and tilting the back rest more to compensate might support your leg/hip a bit more?
