Hi everyone, Australian Mito owner here. Bought an 88KW Mito in 2009 as the dealer did a great price as they were not as popular as the Sport 114KW model which was the better seller and much more popular. Regretted this decision to buy this car fairly quickly as my 88KW version didn’t have enough go and detested the look of the tooth pick sized pipe sticking out the back called an exhaust system. Alfa Australia then discounted the Mito range in 2010 and dropped the 88KW version. So the 114KW model was then available for less than what I paid for mine not even a year later. Wasn’t happy at all about this at all; a good way for Alfa to lose customers. But loved driving my Mito though, as it drives and looks great. Was thinking about buying the new QV as mine is nearly out of warranty….. but unfortunately my discontinued engine version is now close to worthless as a trade.

So decided to go for an ECU remap and Remus exhaust instead, as they are more available in Brisbane now where I live. Apparently my engine is a detuned version of the 114KW. Remaps in Australia are certainly are not cheap, but cheaper than a new car that is for sure. Really impressed with the results, the company did a great job and the car runs faultlessly. The Mito is now a beast, loads more torque and performance. Think I am getting somewhere around 118k and 246NM of torque. The Remus exhaust looks awesome and a nice subtle tone without too much noise.

Has anyone else remapped these lower spec Mito’s and any tips for other performance enhancements?

i think they were originally designed for new drivers, as in Italy you have to have less than 90hp for 2 years, or something like that. it was primeraly for the European market

you should get the turbo for it, i dont know how easy it will be to fit, you will need new manifold, ecu, and lower engine compression, but that will take to 150hp :)

thanks for the posts guys and good to see another Aussie Giordano. very interesting to learn about the power rating limitation for new drivers for 2 years in Europe. we don't have that here in Aust for cars, but we do for motor bikes. i forgot about the differences in power rating classification between Aust and Europe... the 88KW is the lower spec turbo version, think around 120 HP if i am correct. we never got the 90HP 66KW? version over here in the Mito, but i suspect it was in the standard Punto. I have heard only turbos are the best candidates for a remap. think i have around 155HP now after the remap and exhaust, just hope i don't destroy the standard clutch and gearbox. have read of some Mitos on the web being well over 200HP with a new and bigger turbo. ..... still would love a new QV!!! cheers

Interesting about your remap.

Hi Matt,

Welcome.
Interesting about your remap. I'm looking for a remap in Brisbane for my spider. Not easy to find someone trustworthy. Where did you get yours done?

Cheers,

Hi Matt,

Brendale is real handy actually. I'll investigate them further. How much did you pay?

It might be on show at Lakeside on Sunday at the Festival of Italian Motor Sport. Hope to see you there.
