Hi there

Just got my car back from a service and a whole load of niggles fixed. On the drive home I found that it would struggle to rev above 4k and there was definantly a misfire but not very bad. Obviously it was fine before the service

I am thinking HT leads as I had a similar problem with my other half's Street KA. Any other ideas?

Thanks guys

There could be a number of reasons for a twinny to missfire, like a failing maf, oil in the spark plug wells, specifically the No. 1 plug hole, closest to the filler. If it was an oil service then this is the most likely cause and you could remove the plastic engine cover to inspect the plug holes for oil or sometimes even water. If this comes out clean, try removing the plug to the maf. If performance is restored (The car will idle lumpy with the maf removed but should pull normally) then it's the maf that's failing.

Thanks Guys. I have just read the bit about MAF's on the Alfaholicis web page. I am wondering as it had it air filter changed today if it has sucked in some crap from the change over. Nothing else has been touched other than the removal of a loose stoneguard that was rattling like hell. Where is the MAF on the V6?

I understand its in the same place as on the TS: above the air filter... so it could have taken a knock in the change?

Otherwise, yeh you have HT leads and spark plugs you can inspect... but if they havn't been touched? What else was serviced?

Nothing else. I have just bought the car and it has a pretty good service history. Just it's last service (1,500 miles ago) was done by the owner and I prefer to keep it serviced by someone who know what they are doing. So a basic service of oil and filters, removal of the rattling stone guard and a change of a relay on the heater control. MAF certainly seems to make sense. It scared the hell out of me when I hit the flat spot over taking a car! Alfaholics are currently doing MAF for a V6 at £100 fitted.

The garage asked me to give the car a drive this morning before work. A slight hesitation in 4th gear at 4500 revs but pulled cleanly after it. Pretty sure it must be the MAF HT leads and plugs don't tend to fix themselves. I will see what it gets up to this weekend!

Had a good chat with my Alfa guy today, who thought it most likely the MAF somehow getting dirt into when he changed the airfilter. A previous owner has decided to remove to oil cooler completely from the car so it is going back in soon to have that re-fitted so I guess if it plays up again I will get it swapped. I intend to give it a good drive this weekend so I will see what it does.
