Hi All,

Reaching out for a bit of help..... I would like to use MES to check a few things including SOC, Alarm sensitivity e.c.t. Does anybody have a general how to when it comes to MES?
I have purchased a pack of cables from iDiagnostics, ELM + BLUE + GREY. I just have no clue where to start.

Any help would be greatly recieved, Hoping this thread will help others too. Apologies if a similar thread already exists.

I haven't used idiagnostics but it should be as straightforward as choosing the right colour of cable as requested for the module you are connecting to. The MES website lists which is for which first every car model.

You can download the free version of MES and play with it in simulation mode to familiarize yourself with the features before connecting to car. It's all straightforward after that. It is easier to use than explain.

Hi Gents, thanks for the posts. Managed to find the time today to check MES, Battery SOC @ 37% even though its recently had a CTEK charge and has been on a few runs so definitely need a new battery, Alternator putting out 14.4v so no problem here.

Had various errors intermittent detected no CEL, captured a log and have reset.. Will monitor this over the next few weeks/months. I also suspect all modules need updating even though according to the paperwork the dealer apparently does these when purchasing a car... More lies...

Is there anywhere I can check for latest firmware ect so I can confirm this and pressure the dealer?

MES pick up lots of comms errors so I would not be too concerned. The only error to keep an eye on is P2BC1-00 which is to do with the Low Temperature electric coolant pump performance.

Does look like you need a new battery, they should update the BCM software while at it.

Odd that you are getting ECM 'UNKNOWN/UNSUPPORTED'. As the Scan report is giving you software version data, it would seem you are using MES 4.7?

The BCM/IBS often underestimates Battery State of Charge so it's not certain that the battery needs replacing. What's the battery voltage like with the engine stopped about 30 minutes after shutting the car down?

As @metalgod23 says many of your errors are comms errors and they will be intermittent and the BCM is software is in need of an update. 706 is at least 2 versions out-of-date.

Good luck,

Thanks for the quick response guys.

Yes MES 4.7, bizarre... I sent the report over to the software vendor, not sure why the ISO code isn't being recognised.. my car is a MY17 Veloce.

Battery voltage is 12.21, been about 1 hour since last run. I intend to charge again with CTEK over the Christmas period, I'll then check SOC after a letting it settle. Hopefully this will confirm the IBS is working and further point towards the battery. I will speak the the dealer and request they update all software. I'm sure they'll make some excuses.

Still love the car even with these little gremlins, my choices were Jaguar XE 300S or BMW440i.... Still glad I went with the Alfa.

12.2 V suggests the battery is about 60% charged, 37% is more like 11.8V.

Don't use MES/BCM SoC alone as indicator of the need for battery replacement. Get the battery tested before you decide.

A lot of Giulia batteries are being replaced prematurely just because of the BCM's pessimistic SoC estimate.

Dealers are only allowed to change the battery if it is found weak after testing using an official battery tester. Otherwise they just charge it overnight.

The ISO error with ECU, I would get that on the previous 2.0 2017 Giulia I had. As long as MES can scan the ECU module, it is fine.
