2004 156 JTD M-Jet 1.9 16v

I think that I may have buggered my MAP sensor ( not MAF ) when cleaning it yesterday. See this thread:

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-147-156-and-gt/311471-engine-warning-oil-sensor-fault.html

So my questions are:

1) Would what I've done cause these symptoms? Thereby needing a new MAP sensor?

2) I've seen these MAP sensors on Ebay...is there anything much different between the £20
ones and the £57 pound ones?

3) If I replace it and fix the problem...is there a way to reset the ECU so it stops showing the
error message? Or do I have to go to a dealer to get it reset. Or will fixing the problem
stop the error message?

Thanks all.

:):)

In response to your other thread the fiat JTD has an oil sensor down the back of the engine no where near the map sensor but can't tell you on the alfa 16v version. Plus the warning of oil sensor fault sort of rules out MAP sensor :)

i know on TS engines the oil pressure switch is at the back of the block. I know that the LCD screen of a JTD says 'Oil OK' which is would think is an oil level message not an oil pressure message. Oil level switch would be in the sump. Does the message come up as soon as you turn the key to MAR or does it require the engine to be started? Can you read error codes?

Hmmm....strange....I just tried it this morning ( the problem happened yesterday )....and nothing!! No warning whatsoever.:D

Does this mean it was merely a glitch in the Matrix and I'm off the hook? :cool:cool:

Hope so.

cheers

You'd have taken the battery off to do the thermostat and alfas are weird when the battery is removed or low. Mine won't start for a good 30mins after the battery has been off on the JTD. Also when the battery gets low these sort of electrical gremlins pop up. If you're still on the original battery then it might be about time. Just did mine and it's a 53 plate

Makes sense Joss - I've just taken off the MAP sensor again and given it another clean - this time with more care and with brake cleaner. All seemed good when I restarted her.

But I'm still thinking I maybe should get a new MAP sensor - so can anyone answer my second question:

2) I've seen these MAP sensors on Ebay...is there anything much different between the £20
ones and the £57 pound ones?

Both items have been removed. :( MAP sensor is a MAP sensor. They don't go wrong very often in my experience. It is usually the MAF that plays up. Either should be fine
