I dropped my car at Autolusso last Friday for a service, cambelt and clutch. Just had a call to say had they known the belt was in such poor condition he would have changed it two years ago, plus it had the original tensioners. So I am glad it survived, I don't mind spending money to keep a car in top condition. I only do about 6000 miles a year, but still have asked for the belt to be changed now 4 years after the last change.

So the thing is if AL reckon they would have changed it two years ago you have to wonder what a p*** poor job the last garage did!!

Come this Friday my wallet will be considerably lighter, but I will at least be happy in the knowledge it has been done properly this time.

Just to clarify

The car had only it belt changed by the last place that was in there, tensioner, 2 x idler and water pump were all original. Cam covers have never been off and there was red paint marks for the timing marks and the belt was very lose

The job is being done correctly now

Thanks Ned, TBH the red paint marks were the reason I never used them again and came to you in the first place. I had expected/hoped that while the locking tools clearly hadn't been used, they had at least done the job. I will ask you Friday if you don't see this, but would I be right in assuming from what you say that if the cam cover hasn't actually been off, then the belt hasn't actually been changed? If that's the case then I am starting to get just a bit angry!

When I say cam cover I mean the cam shaft cover not the cam belt cover, the belt was changed last time but only the belt and not correctly

Hi Adam - not good :tut:

Go on was it a local place? Main dealer? - not that mine needs anything at the moment.

I actually wanted to go to Autolusso (sorry ned - not had a chance since we spoke, being the summer hols etc..), but now that the kids are back at school - must drop in for one of your Saturday pop ins!)

Sadly can't do this Saturday, otherwise I would have taken you to pick up your car and get mine reviewed at the same time.

Not another one. :(

IIRC you said I had Tipp-Ex on mine from the previous 'specialist', though somehow I doubt we are talking about the same garage.

Just got the car back. Having spoken with Ned I'm not going to name the garage, this was 4 years ago and Ned was quite surprised they hadn't used the locking tools and done the job properly as he knows the guy.

I think the lesson here is never assume the proper locking tools will be used, so ask before the work is done.

On the plus side I have the car back and its driving like new, i don't think I had realised how bad the clutch had actually got!

Thanks Ned
