Hi all! First post here...
Finally updgraded from 147 (which I loved btw...) to a GT
1.9 JTDm distinctive
blue digione, grey leather, connect nav+, love the Bose speakers
I'll have to find a way to connect an iPod to it... (if anyone managed without major 'car surgery'... please let me know)
My 147 was a 1.9 JTD (not 16v).., the new JTDs really make a difference. Though the car is longer and heavier that the 147, it's v. responsive (can imagine the 147 with the same engine must be good fun...)
Well.. enough for a first post...
only regret I did not put fat alloys on it !!! They look so much better!!
will have to take a few photos and post them.

Just got an Alpha Ipod kit fitted to my GT (with Bose upgrade). Works very well. Looks good as well, as it fits into the space where the naff cup holder (that changes the channel on your radio for you) and the card holder go.

It's a proper Alpha badged bit of kit that is not readily available in this country, but I managed to find them on the shelf at Smart Alpha (http://**********************) . It took 10 mins to fit - very easy - no thanks to the Italian instructions.

Sorry about the spelling Dodger, I was going to make a feeble excuse about late nights and rushed typing but it wouldn't be true. You would think I'd be able to spell Alfa, having driven them for 5 years 0/10 for observation.

The iPod kit is good though and very neatly done, I'll try and get some pictures for Wimster.

I had a new head unit fitted to my 146 with an Aux. input for my iPod and thought it would be easy to get that fitted into my GT when I got it. No such luck, as the Bose upgrade makes any other head unit useless. So I have been looking for a solution for 18 months. The Ice link looked good but messy, but this bit of kit is The Dogs. It does use the CD multichanger input, so if you have a CDC you might want to reconsider.

The tray with the card and cup holder is removed and a new tray with a single large flap is fitted instead, this has a nice rubber mat inside that your iPod sits on hidden behind the single flap.

The iPod can then be plugged in and controlled by the steering wheel buttons - and charged. Good stuff all round. It is sold through Alfa dealers in the rest of Europe but not in the UK, but you can get them through Smart Alfa - who give a very good service.

On a different subject, beware of non Alfa garages changing tyres. I received crumpled body work from a garage jacking my GT up incorrectly and they didn't even mention it to me. I had to go back and confront them about it the next day. Having said that, they did pay for the repair without much argument. It would have been better to avoid the whole mess in the first palce though.

I guess I'll have to ring Smart Alfa and ask if the kit also works if you have the nav fitted. I don't have the card/cup holder. I would assume they should still be able to connect the cable in whatever spare port the unit has (don't have the cdc)... and have it come out of... the glove compartment?

Since we are talking music... aren't mp3 Cds supposed to work? The car is supposed to have "Autoradio RDS CD/MP3"... maybe by adding the nav option they give you a cd player that doesn't read mp3s?

Promise that when I am done with music I have another topic ready... something to do with a funny noise at 2k rpm... like a resonance... which goes away as I change gear and the revs go down... then starts again when I hit 2k... and yesterday the front left indicator popped out... :( 4 Alfas and not an issue... this one is hurting my feelings!... but it still gets all the affection it deserves...

ps: like this forum!

I don't know if it works when you add the iPod pack afterwards, but when you order it as an option on your Alfa: yes the steering wheel control buttons work :)
