(Sorry-I realise there are many key threads, but this is a bit different)

Just a month after buying my alfa 147, with just 1 key, i managed to lose it in a club.Idiot. I went to my dealer, was quoted £130+50 for coding...so far so good.

Took it in today, then he phoned and told me that because the alarm was set when i lost the key, he couldnt get round it to reset the code. He then told me I'd need a new body computer at a cost of about £250 +labour.

This is madness! Just for a lost key, i have to spend £500!!!!Does anyone know if this is common, you shouldnt have to replace a whole computer just for a lost key. Has it happened to any of you? I'm in the mood to cry...I'm just a poor student.

Anyone any advice please...

Mate, I feel for you. I'm a student, when I bought mine the ECU was knackered and it cost £630 to replace. Luckily, I got the trader to pay as it had had a performance chip soldered on before he sold it to me. I don't really know what they need to do at the garage but look around for local specialists that might be able to sort you out cheaper, Reg Vardy's Alfa wanted around £850 for my ECU work. Maybe you should get a spare key made at the same time, I've only got one key and you've made me think now :(

Good luck, don't worry student loan comes through in a month :D

Spoke to a couple of specialists about this before. No cheaper solution than waht the main dealers offer I`m afraid.

I did hear of someone that ordered a key directly from the factory, but you still need to get it coded to your car.

There are a couple of key replacement specialists on Google, but I did`nt get a response from either and neither listed Alfa.
