We are on the look-out for a good, reasonably priced garage to service Mrs.GC's Micra.

We recently tried a local garage ("Smile" in Portsmouth - an ironic name if ever I heard one :p). They charged us £475 for a P3 service - admittedly one of the larger services, but that's Alfa main dealer prices!!

We also asked them to look at the air-con, which we thought needed re-gassing. They said there was a leak (as there was no gas left), but it took three separate visits for them to conclude the leak was on the radiator which needed to be replaced at a cost of £500 :wow:.

I had the radiator replaced on the 156 a few weeks ago, and it cost me £440 at the Alfa main dealer. I rang the Nissan main dealer we used to use, and they quoted me just over £300 to replace the radiator. :tut:

Needless to say, the Micra won't be seeing the inside of that garage any time soon.

So, does anyone know of any reputable garages in the Portsmouth/Fareham area?

Hello Major - long time no see

Life is good (although busy). Still have a job, so I'm not complaining :). Mrs.GC has given up work, so I'm getting a hot meal ready when I get home each night :D.

How's life "oop north"?

Still driving a tractor? :p

How could you suggest such a thing?!?!?!?  :rant::mad:
(I'd best not mention this post to Mrs.GC :tut:)

On a more helpful note a rad change is pretty hard to mess up TBH so you can get away with taking it to a local garage. Just make sure it's not part of a chain so they will be looking for return business. AVOID kwik FIT/HALFRAUDS etc :tut:

Thanks Joss :)

To be honest, I would also be looking for somewhere to take the car for the regular servicing, so return business is on the table if they can make a good impression and are reasonably priced.

Tried looking for a Micra equivalent to alfaowner.com, who might have a forum with helpful threads about reputable garages, but couldn't really find anything useful :(. Anyway, I'd feel a bit queesy about registering on a Micra forum...... :tut: :p

You should make her register:tut: My mrs expects me to do all the sorting of car stuff out as well. I pay everything in parts and work I don't want to do and also spend many weekend under the alfas only for her to complain at how expensive they are:confused: Why? I ask her. All she does is tax and insure it. Half the time I get to the car and there isn't even any fuel in the thing. Perhaps she thinks all other brands run on fresh air and never break down:confused::lol::rolleyes:

Well, since Mrs.GC gave up work earlier in the year, my dinner has been on the table each night when I get home from work. So I don't want to rock that boat too much......
