Hi Aubrey, isn't "Longlife" just a franchise like "Powerflow" I remember when i was replacing the standard system on my Spider i went to a Longlife crowd and couldn't get away quick enough. I ended up with a powerflow system and i believe its all down to whom ever owns the franchise, so unless you have heard loads of good reports from genuine people i would avoid. Word of mouth is the best way to judge any franchise IMO not the garbage marketing guff they fill their websites with.:)

Aunrey

My brother in law got a full system there for his 145 cloverleaf and recommends them, it is owned by Paul at Motormech in Birmingham which I have used for years and are very good.

I have noticed someone else recommended MIJ in walsall the other day so I will get a quote from both for my new system.

Good Luck

I looked at them a couple of years ago when I was first considering replacing Daisy's exhaust... and wrote them off for a reason I now can't remember.
Helpful?

Kingswinford Tyres who fit Powerflow exhausts have done a good job of Jez's and welded the Decat on Layla back together there and then for no charge (they didn't know how to price work that didn't have any parts ).

Thanks for the replies all. I'd failed to realise they were a franchise. From the mixed feedback here, it sounds like a bit more research is needed before I let them any where near Il Mostro

Ask to see the fitters work, it is all down to how well he fits the "bits" together. Basically they have x number of standard sections that they tailor to each car. The skill is how well they put those bits together. I have used the same place in Battersea since the early ' 70's. The Big Blue Bruiser ( 3.0 GTV ) has a Longlife since 2005  they will offer you a choice of tips , and should offer a sound level. Do you want a Gaz or little old lady Micra ?

What sort of sound are you after? Thats the most important question IMO. I have never heard a franchise type exhaust that has that nicely tuned Italian note that the standard system gives. Don't get me wrong I've heard many very nice sounding custom exhausts, but they've all sounded a bit generic and lost the note they're famous for. I think it is because all the backboxes are mass-produced for generic application, the 'custom' part is that the tailpipes, hangers, and the rest of the system is made up to fit whatever car is on the ramps. On a normal V6 Alfa or even your GTA, its not really of huge importance, but I think more consideration needs to be taken with the SZ. :)

I'd wondered about MIJ myself - saw a few people had used them. But I take your point as well Dan - the SZ deserves something a little more special. I'm really after just a bit more of a noticeable exhaust note at lower revs and while idling - not chavvy, but not completely anonymous as it currently is. It sounds fantastic at full scream, but is just a bit underwhelming the rest of the time. I'd like it to sound as good as it looks!

Perhaps the Supersprint or Autodelta systems are a better way forward? Any opinions on those? And perhaps it's time this thread moved to the tuning and upgrades lounge

What about Dan's/Wizard's bespoke systems?;) Any i have heard sound amazing and if you are considering Supersprint/Autodelta then i would argue it's in the same league if not better.

Your car might even be the template for SZ's for them.

I haven't heard a Supersprint system on a 12v before, but I like the sound of that idea more than MIJ/Powerflow/Longlife etc. I had a Supersprint on my 3 litre 156 before I replaced it with Unicorse and I was totally happy with it, it had a nice note to it, quite subtle for most of the rev range and a nice top end note.

Unicorse: Dan's genuine Unicorse system.mp4 - YouTube

Raggazzon is worth a consideration as well, they can sound very nice.

I've got a Ragazzon centre and back box on the GTA, which is exactly the kind of sound I'm after. But I haven't been able to find a Ragazzon system for an SZ. Do they exist?
Good question - perhaps not, but you could always buy a Raggazzon backbox from something else and modify the hangers and the pipe leading into the backbox to make it fit the SZ. By the way, you have a PM :)
