Hi there,

Does anybody used Kwik fit for the Air Con service???? (I mean full Air con service)...

If so is it worth to try them or is too risky?

Thanks

I used them to re-gas my 147 and think they did a really good job.

They checked it all out to see whether it was working properly as well.

And they're cheap as chips.

Although I have heard that the Kwik Fit experience differs loads depending on which one you go to.

I got a full air con service from an indy (who has been professionaly doing air con servicing for 15 years) for £50 ... then when I took my wifes car to him the following week he charged me £40 ... the trouble with kwik fit is that it is ok as long as everything goes smoothly, if there's anything slightly out of the ordinary then you're stuffed (as they will cluck it up)

Thats the thing with them... all good if all goes good but if anything need a bit of extra work they give it up straight away... I know they are cheap as chips... but my car has only one life to live :D

I will check the other options before I visit Kwik Fit...

thanks guys

Would never let a Kwik-Fit-Fitter near my car. A friend of mine recently had his astra coupe serviced with my local branch and they forgot to put the top of the air box back on.

I had my GTV AC redone by them, they only use a machine that is fully automatic. If you know the system is working fine just a bit less cold than normal, and just needs a re-gas then go for it. If the AC has stopped working then don't bother. I had a hole in the evaporator on my GTV the size of a baked bean. The Kwik Fit machine leak tested the system and didn't find the leak. A proper garage hooked it up to a Nitrogen tank and the N2 came out the air vents obviously.

Kwik Fit are good for simple operations, new tyres, new exhausts, never use them for brain testing jobs like oil changes, servicing or brakes. They are all too often staffed by spanner monkeys with the IQ of a hamster!

Even with a simple task such as fitting a new tire they managed to scuff a alloy on the bmw 318ti I once had. I went ape-sh*t

So how much do they charge? I bet they were more expensive than my (qualified) bloke? (or within a couple of quid anyway)

QUick fit are only £30 or £40 and if they cant fix it.... they dont charge, so I would suggest that they are always your first port of call.

They use the same automated system as most garages, it automatically decants, OFN2 tests and if it passes weighs in fresh refrigerant and oil.

If its just lost pressure over time (which it really shouldnt...) this will do the trick.

Don't bet on it .. they had 5 goes to try and get my 75 exhaust to stay together near the rear silencer box. Within a day, it parted company again. Their solution would have been to simply weld it up if I'd let them!!!

Good advice ..

I've had the baaad experience, that they've put a tyre on the wron way 'round.
Now, there are directional arrows and a print that sez "outside" on the tyre walls. They were asymmetrical, so even without the ability to read or understand arrows, they should have seen it. Shouldn't they?

Now, if they can't put on a tyre the correct way, what do you think they'll do to... whatever?

I don't touch them with a bargepole!

he does discounts depending on the amount of cars he does for you ... charged £50 for my car and then £40 for my missus ... although that was a year ago so things might have changed ...
