Hi,

A few weeks ago I ordered a set (front and rear) of Bilstein sport shocks for my V6 from Larkspeed. It seems, however, that the Bilstein sports have been discontinued for the GTV, and they can now offer adjustible Koni sports instead. Would those be similar to to Bilsteins or is it a compleatly different deal? I was planning ot keep my original springs....

Grateful for inputs on this...

Best regards

I have recently had the Koni's fitted to my V6, I used to run the Bilsteins before, IMO the Koni's are a better shock all round. I am not running standard springs though as mine is on Ebaich lowering springs, so I am unsure to how they would react on the standard springs. I ordered mine from Alfisti.net as they were way cheaper than any supplier here, including the international shipping.

I have Koni sports all round - there fine.

Only problem is there adjustable and im constantly fiddling with the settings depending on my mood. Unfortunately the rears are not easy to adjust as they have to come out of the car.

With Bilsteins at least there on the one setting and you just leave them on whatever setting the factory gives you.

If your mood was normal road driving (not track day etc) what setting would you recommend for front and rear ? Soft ?

Do you have Q2 fitted ? ( which I do) as this may affect your reasoning

Thanks

Thank you all for your inputs on this. The reason I wanted Bilsteins in the first place was that I had the impression that they were a better alround shock. I'm not aiming for a track day set up, only a firmer set up for every day driving. That's also why I was planning to keep the original spring with the Bilsteins. It seems though that most people with Konis also go for Einbach springs but if someone have experience with original springs I would love to hear. Well, it seems that Bilsteins has stoped the producton on Bilstein sport for the GTV and that makes this choise a little easier.....

Hi I have koni's on STD springs with full poly bushes and a strut brace.
I find the fronts with 60% on is great tight in the turns and smooth on the motorway.
I worked up from 0% in stages worked out one wholeturn is the sweet spot for me (I measured 1.75 turns stop to stop). Previous owner mentioned that full soft was similar to standard shocks.
IMO Koni's with standard springs is best fast road compromise as v6 GTV's sit low with the aero kit on etc
Hope this helps

Do you like the Q2 ?
Next on my list ;))

Normal Road driving the rears are on second hardest. Fronts are on 1 full turn from hard. I have normal OEM springs but 18' wheels with lower profile sticky pirelli p zeros - firms up the ride a bit. No Q2.

If I was going for max performance on the road - going on drive days with other Alfa people etc I put the fronts on Full Hard and leave the rears on second hardest setting. Ride is harder but bearable - but WOW Performance is stunning.

Don’t the under steer increase when you put the fronts on it hardest.
On the track I found that the under steer decreased when I set my fronts softer.
But I fitted a GTA front ARB so your car will probably want them harder to get the same effect.

Well depends on all the different settings on the car I guess. Mine is very flexible at the front. The Rear reamains rock solid while I can change my line at will whilst in a corner with the rear still keeping in the same line of the corner.

I think it might have alot to do with the 18'wheels and lower profile sticky pirelli pzero tyres I have . Tyres nowadays claim to provide better grip as well as providing comfort. And the combination I have really feels like a second set of shock absorbers again in the wheel tyre combination.

I think I need a stiffer rear antiroll bar since my front is a little stiff with the current setup not that I can complain about the rear.

.......I've heard it all now!!!!!!!??????:cheese::rolleyes:

I humbly apologise if I've offended anybody but 18s on 40 profile tyres do not add to the suspension but just make the car feel harder. I like them though.:)

I could definitely feel the difference between the 235 40 18's and the 225 45 17's on my GTV so depending on the width and weight of the rims it could make a deference.

Nothing wrong with a little exaggeration to bring a point across since all of us take it as such.

But I am sure no one feels offended with your comment since we also take it the same way as the overstating of suspension working in the post.

I knew I shouldn't have bothered

..but slightly exaggerating is one thing, overstating with misleading incorrect statements is another, IMO.

And I still like 18s, especially when driven hard on smooth roads...unfortunately a rare opportunatey in this country(around here anyway).:)
