hi all

my 147 TI JTDm (06reg) has got a knocking noise from the front of the car...but only when cold and soon goes away, when warm

when i start the car, there is a knocking noise which appears to be coming from behind the drivers side of the car, i hear it clearly thru the dash(not saying its the dash)

after the car has been driven a few minutes it goes away
it also goes away when i rev the car
it also appears to knock over bumps

all this goes away after a few minutes when the car/engine has warmed up !!!

help :)

if it were my car i'd start by checking the stabiliser [ top most ] bracket of the engine followed by checking the mounting brackets for the exhaust.

Is it a metallic noise?

I've got a cracked manifold shield (under dipstick) which rattles until it warms up. Didn't know it was this until i put force on the shield & the rattling stopped.

i think the noise is too "deep" to be a really metallic noise... more a knock rather than a tap :)

hopefully that is it !!

now all i have to do is sort out my squeaky clutch !! the alfa fix's go on.

you'd have to wonder what is the top cover doing that is stopping this noise? try it for a few days with the cover on, then remove it to see if the noise comes back :)
