Was using my key as normal.
Locked the car, 2 mins later it wouldn't work on the remote. Changed the battery, no go.
Sent it off to be checked came back(no charge)as was key transmitting.

Does anyone know the sequence for recodeing the key to the car. Cars a 2006 1.9 GTd.
Here's the key. 3 button. Any help appreciated, thank you.

Do none of the buttons work, or only the one button not working?

If none work, and the key is definitely transmitting with a new battery, it does sound like it's the car not interpreting the code correctly.
Another thing I would suggest, if you can easily do it as a check, is to fit a known good battery to the car. A low battery charge on a GT causes all kinds of gremlins.

If it's actually the alarm/locking module that's lost its mind, I unfortunately don't know the process for recoding it. I am sure someone else would be able to help, though.

Have 2 keys the other one works perfectly. This one did then just didn't??? Works fine manually, just no buttons at all.

Another thing, though. With a phase 3 156 (which is admittedly a bit different from the GT) I once had the situation where I soldered a microswitch back onto the circuit board. After doing that, the car wouldn't immediately react to the button being pressed, but after a few button presses, maybe 15 or 20, it suddenly worked. Something to try, if you like.

had a similar issue with a berlingo van key.One button was stuck.I gently dried the key on a radiator overnight ,cleaned the battery and its pick ups and hey presto.

I have the same problem and Ill tell you what kinda works for me, without a new key.

Put the key in the lock and turn it right while pressing the lock button, and do the samefor unlocking only reversed. It works a few times for me and then reverts back. Im unlocking it manually for a few months now + didnt get my code card when I got the car

If you go down the reprogramming route, is it not a case of using MultiScan with the correct cable and reprogamming both keys at the same time?

Have same problem. Recently bought 2008 GT 3.2 (enjoying it, and it seems to be a good one--only 51k kms) and one key works normally, the other works in locks/ignition, but no remote function. (Which also seems to mean the alarm goes off when I use it to unlock after having locked with the functioning remote--so it has limitations as a spare!) Local highly-regarded Italian/euro specialist workshop tried re-programming without success. They had my other key and the card with the codes on it, but I don't know what process they followed.

Any further suggestions please? Or even just information about what I'm up for at a dealer, or whether I can order something anywhere more competitive? I am in Australia, by the way.

There is a guy on here who does key repairs. I sent my key to him to have a new battery put in and a switch and rubber button replaced.

Search on eBay for 'alfa key repair', seller name is zaksystems. I was impressed with the service and he was willing to answer any questions or concerns I had

What happens is key loses sync with the car computer,you need to reprogram it with diagnostics device. For that you need a code card that comes with the car. It can be done also without the card for the bigger price.

Should I trust these guys who claim they can figure out the code without a card? I bought the car almost a year ago (25th of this month will be a year ), but I didn't get the code card and the guy I bought it from claims he didn't get it either. Now, I went to the dealer he bought it from and, of course, they don't have it anymore and have no idea what happened to it.

There's a guy on our local ads site, and he has quite a bit of rep going for him, who claims he can figure the code out for 25€ in 2 hours, whereas the Alfa service will charge me over 50€ I think, and will take a few days to arrive.

Same thing for myself, doesn't work for locking/unlocking or the back door. I can re-sync it manually by turning it right to lock and pressing the lock button at the same time and then it works for a day or so and stops working again, to the point where I no longer use the remote unlocking.

50 euro for new card is not much,if you have the money go for that option. And you keep the card. It used to be around 150 euros. Program it with diagnostics and you'll have no problem with it.

Apparenty in the UK Alfa dealers didn't give the key code with a new car. Something about insurance, supposedly.
Got my key code from a main dealer £25. Had to produce ownership docs. proof of address, utility bill etc. What a palaver. Almost as difficult as trying to get a dvd from the old Blockbusters.
