Young Thomas has his bumper filled and primed. Weather permitting, he might get it painted tomorrow.

The Escort's reworked front suspension is now permanently attached. I've added a bit of camber, just for fun.

Mine looks much sexier than the standard kit pictured.

Escort coming along nicely.

Front spoiler and bonnet need painting. The spoiler fit is awful. The one on my Mk2 30 years ago was much better.

I may do them matt black.

About done I think. Apart from devising a means of keeping the bonnet on. The crappy Italeri kit has hinges so you can glue it on permanently open but nothing to hold it in place. I may also add some stripes on the sides.

Is that writing across the windscreen top right? I thought for that type and era of car it should say something line "Gary & Denise"? ;)

It came with a full decal set, I've added a few to give it a sort of upmarket chav-made-good, Gary won £10,000 on a scratchcard, feel.

New project has started. The aim is for it to be quite low, with weather-beaten paint. I'm going to prime it again, then put colour on, then flat back the topcoat so the primer is exposed.

The tailgate gives an idea of what I'm thinking.

Paint flatted with 1500 grit. Between the primer and the black I dusted it with red so in places the red comes through and in others it's through to the primer. Next stage will be compound to reduce the flatting marks and reveal more colour.

I have now gone over the paint with compound. Not too much because I don't want it too shiny.

As I'm building my truck, young Tom started work on a Lego Technic Corvette ZR1 at dinnertime.

Tom has built his Corvette. It is amazing. It has an actual working diff.

If you want your kids to understand how a car works it's a very good start.

Ride height settled now. Any lower and I'd have to start hacking the inner arches out.

Not a huge amount of progress. I've been spending 8-9 hours a day staring at a laptop screen so my patience is all used up by teatime.

For some reason the bed won't line up with the body so I've had to space it out a bit. The cab is permanently on the chassis now. My frenched tail light apertures are about done but I think the plastic lenses are too big to fit from behind so I'll need some acetate of some sort.

I've filled in the turn signals on the bonnet and lost the door handles too.
