Hi, I have a 2.4 JTD 10v. I have noticed (as with a previous one) that it tends to "wobble" into action? Seems fine after that! Any neat trick to solve?

Thanks!

there is a butterfly valve which closes to aid a smooth shutdown, don't know if tis has anything to do with startup mind.

I take it the glowplugs work and you allow time for them to pre-heat?

Do you mean when you first start up? Noticed my 2.4 Jtd starts with a right thump some mornings like the engines going to jump out! seems better if you have patience to wait for heater plug light to go out....only a few seconds but seems like ages when your waiting!!

You don't need to wait for the glow plugs on modern diesels. Its direct injection isn't it?
My 2.4 JTD doesn't even have a light that displays for the glow plugs.

But yes mine sometime starts with a bit of a thump but not all the time.

Or have i got it all wrong?

Think you have it wrong :wow:

Mine has a glow plug light and I always wait for it to go out. If you've got no light, something is duff/missing.

I need to go check this as I have never noticed a light for the plugs showing before?? (But cars in dealers atm . . )
I am pretty sure that direct injection got rid of the need to sit waiting for glow plugs??

Big, solid, crank throwing it's weight around, if instantaneous spark ignition is missing?? :(: And that hefty flywheel of course. Together, a force to be reckoned with.

I put a thread out recently with exactly this type of problem. Didn't get much joy I'm afraid :(

My 2.4JTD 10v is generally ok starting when cold - providing I leave the glowplugs on long enough. Starting when hot however is a totally different story. Judders badly and needs quite a bit of throttle to get it going.

Have replaced all the glowplugs, replaced the thermostat (not related I know), and messed around with the EGR.

Its as though an injector is not firing properly, although someone has said I may be suffering from lack of compression in one of the cylinders - but I really cant face that problem!!!

Am going to replace the fuel filter and air filter this weekend - I bet that will make little difference as well - but at least I know I can strike them off the list.

Good luck cos I'm running out of ideas

You might want to get someone to check for fault codes and have an injection specialist you can trust have a look. A previous 156 of mine is now suffering from a misfire on running so it's either an injection issue or lack of compression
