in 5th it will pull above 2500 rpm, but not like it used too

Have you got smoke coming out the back when you try to boot it... may just need to clean your EGR valve (search on here)

Mine is crap in 6th gear too... have to work the gears on the 1.9... maybe you lost your remap... and its gone back to normal lol

Or have a look over the turbo hoses and make sure theres no splits in the pipes.

yes it is very smokey, alwasy has been

well last week it could make the clutch slip at 90 mph it pulled that hard, today its barely doing anything in 8th, so something has chaged completley

so turbo pipes and EGR clean to start with then

the black smoke is from leaky injectors i think, well so i was told, it smoked before the remap,

yes the clutch must be weak, but thats not an issue at the moment

this morning the 'motor control system failure' do dar came on, no boost at all now, so i guess im in limp mode

never had this much trouble with an alfa before, give me a 16v twinspark any day

Limp mode will reset when you solve the problem. Lower turbo hose split most probably. Get your clutch done. Won't do the face of the DMF any good spinning it up and you may finish the clutch off at a really unhelpful moment for yourself and get standed:(

Plus think of all that power you can't use :(

lack of power below 2,500rpm ~ 3,000 rpm I would check the VNT actuator function.

I had this issue recently and found that the small vacuum pipe that ran from my actuator, thats on the slam panel just to left of bonnet latch as you look into engine bay, to the VNT mechanism had snapped off. had to glue it back on.

if you have no vacuum supplied to the actuator you may not get any errors flash up but you will be stuck in high pressure VNT mode, so only power at top of rev range.

of course more noticable in higher gears which are harder to pull.

also try not to slip the clutch too much hey, you don't even want to know how much a new dual mass fly wheel will cost you once you've worn it out!

On the back of the rad you will see a cylindrical black component with 2 5mm rubber hoses coming off. There is also one into the VNT mechanismon the turbo which you should be able to see further down too. Thses can split causing the lag problem. It shouldn't put the MSCF light on the dash either if they are split so these could be to blame.

i had the same problem with my 1.9 jtd mjet swagon , limp mode over night, inthe morning took the egr valve off cleaned and soaked in petrol , after two hours the valve was like new , quick brush down , put the part back and the car was perfect , did add some diesel injector cleaning fluid to tank , result no smoke and car is fine , . another fault is to check the air mass sensor , not a cheap part, 170 .

all pipes and tubes checked, ok
fault traced to boost controller, the diag system can be used to vibrate this valve apprently, once that was done the fault cleared

i asked about the cost of replaceing the clutch and had to sit down to digest the answer, needless to say i wont be diveing the car hard in 6th and make the clutch slip even for a second now

all the smoke has gone, must have been the EGR that i cleaned
