hi all ever since ive had my car(stilo jtd 16v 150 multijet)have had issues with blue smoke on start up(when been standing over 8 hours plus)no other time when driving or if restarted same day(even had it rolling roaded and it didnt have a puff os smoke during test).all id found on searching internet was valve stem seals/guides worn or blocked breather etc over last month have swapped oil from selenia wr5w-40 to mobil 1 0w-40 and this made no difference,cleaned breather and intake pipes and vapour trap(very little oil in there anyway) no difference,changed the cold start sensor on thermostat housing no change, cleaned maf sensor and cleaned and re oiled k+n also no difference but now the weather is hot +20c it has stopped.
had started to think it was overfueling on cold starts like an old choke.as it went away last summer also?
any easy way to test if it is valve gudes/seals without rocker cover coming off.(but why stop now its warmer?)
also thought it could be turbo seal weeping and had a feel of free play in turbo when doing inlet pipe all felt o.k
basically why has it stopped just because weathers warmer?

OK so the cars a Fiat and this is an Alfa forum, luckily this is the same engine as the 1.9 16V JTD so I'll answer your Q's.

The smoke could be from any cylinder or turbo related part, that includes, valve stem seals, head gasket, injector, piston rings, turbo bearings, any blocked breather, a stuck CLOSED EGR valve, split inlet hose, split intercooler or cracked head. TBH if the smoke stops after a few seconds I wouldn't be worried, but the most likely seals to be leaking and causing this are the turbo bearing seals, apart from the head gasket tey are the hardest working seals on the car.

The difference in temperature is probably just making the seals remain more plyable during the summer warmth when the engine has cooled, in the winter as the temperature drops seals will also contract and allow oil past in small ammounts, it's no problem as this is why emmisions are done on the engine when it's at running temp.

injector weeping had thought also,is there anyway to depressurise thefuel rail as soon as car is stopped to see if it helps.
yes its the same engine as the alfas astras vectras and saabs,not many on the fiat sites have them so will have limited references to go against for normal.and yes it lasts no more than a couple of seconds.
