Hey!

I've just bought myself a new registration to go on my '10 MiTo Cloverleaf, and as it's only 5 characters, I thought I'd go for a different style of number plate. (UK)

After some googling I decided I'd like to have the Japanese size plates (330x165mm) on both front & rear as I thought they looked pretty mad on Mitos, however, I can't find any Japanese size mounts anywhere online.

Anyone know of anywhere I can order the mounts from?

Do they meet DVLA specs? It's not just the letter sizes and fonts but the gap around the edge. And they check on MOTs now ..

Yes, I've done extensive research, as long the margins & letter size abide by the rules, then they're perfectly legal.
Luckily this size plate can cater for these.

I've been speaking to a friend in Japan who also has a MiTo, and it appears the rear plate mounts are not commercially available due to government regulations on anti theft (or something along those lines).
Still finding it very difficult to find what I'm after.

Ok, so after many troubles, I found what I'm after, so I'll leave a post here for others to know in future.

Short story:
My local dealer can order the parts in!

Long story:
I contacted alfaworkshop.co.uk with my query, they got back to me within 20 minutes with the part number, although I got the impression they couldnt/wouldn't supply the item after no response for 3 days when I asked.
So I googled the part number, came up with 7zap.com (mental website. Has pretty much every part number for everything ever.) So found what I was after on there, including part numbers for the screws, spacers etc...
Went down to my local dealer, a MotorVogue, and spoke to the parts guy about what I was after and he seemed unsure. Anyway, disappeared for 10 minutes with the part numbers, then said it's on their system and can have it delivered by next week!

Not cheap though. £103 for the bracket and all fittings incl. vat.
(But with the trouble I had finding this, I'm just going for it)

[Edit] as I was writing this, Alfa Workshop got back to me suggesting I go to a dealer

Please share some pictures when you install the parts. I am interested in seeing how it looks like.

Will post photos when it's done.
@JnL they do look nice! Red ones would go well on the front.
However, I'm unsure of how legal they are on UK plates. There's a lot of grey areas on what you are, or aren't allowed.

I am not familiar with UK regulations, but I can´t imagine why different screws shouldn´t be allowed.

I didn't think there are any rules .. but I wouldn't want to draw attention to my car for something as simple as this ..

But each to their own .. :paranoid:

Understand now ... but your original email gave the impression these we to mount the plates not the actual mount.

But UK might still be against it ... there are low-life over her who steal plates ... that just makes it easy for them :disappointed:

Plates arrived, they look brilliant!!!

Got a call from the dealer Thursday just gone, everything has turned up for the bracket except 3 rivets. So just waiting on those.

I continued to be in touch with Alfa Workshop and they gave me the retail prices (including VAT) on all the parts I'm after as shown from official Fiat catalogues...
After a bit of math, it turns out I'm being majorly overcharged as the dealer quoted 40% more per item than the actual prices!
I'll see if I can get the price down, but with MotorVogue's after-sales reputation, I'm not getting my hopes up.

The plates are on!

So there was a lot of trouble with getting the bracket, and the dealer being awkward. But I personally feel it looks worth the trouble.

Plus, now I've done it, I can help others who want the same now.
If anyone wants the full walkthrough, let me know.

(also, the rear plate should be more angled, but I have the wrong length bolts, so there's a ton of washers behind... Will post updated photo once I have shorter bolts)
