hey guys just a quick queston im taken my 156 v6 in for a cambelt change next week to my local garage who has done some work for me sucsefully in the past but when i asked him if he had the dial test indicator he told that it is not needed can anyone shed a bit of light on this ...can it be done without!!

If it's the TDC gauge you are refering to YES it can be done without prob not as accurate tho

I wouldn't - do they have the cam locks?

ye he sed he has the cam lock tools .hes done a few in the past but i think he only worked on t park engines ...

Aren't the V6 cam locks different to a T-spark engine

yeh they are but im sure as hes ordering the cam kit and water pump he must know this or im i putting 2 much faith in this guy !!

Cam locks are deffo different - go elsewhere

at the end of the day if he fudge's it up then he has to foot the bill to repair his mistakes, however, if he has done other alfas and he knows about the cam locks then i'm sure he knows what he is doing

Ask him how he will set it to tdc without!!?
A screwdriver down the plug hole will not do!! Do it once do it right.
He may be a very competant mechanic, but setting these engines properly is a must!!
