Hey guys!

So I Leave for my UK road-trip tomorrow and have lined up a couple of bargain-bin Alfas' to buy, run and sell for a profit (hopefully) before I leave!

I'm looking at a gen1 147 series of cars, and quite frankly, as an Australian cannot get over HOW CHEAP these cars are.

This one is by far my favorite, it's an 04 147 Lusso, with the correct 1.6 engine (any bigger and insurance is a killer D:) It is a trade-seller, which would bother me normally, but I've had a chat with the guy on the phone and he seems a genuine bloke. The previous owner of the car has obviously gone to some length to keep it in good condition, it has been regularly serviced, has had an aftermarket stereo fitted (big plus for me, personally) and someone has gone to the trouble of fitting the wheels from a Ti-spec 2006 Alfa 156, identicle to the ones I have on my '06 Ti :) Its in the most desirable Alfa red, has leather, climate control and cruise control... What more could you want from this era car!?

So what do we think, for 1500quid is it too good to be true, or the bargain of the century?

Here's the link... ALFA ROMEO 147 1.6 TS Lusso For Sale in Liverpool - Wavertree Car Centre

The only thing I am conscious of is the time in which the car last had its major cambelt changeover. This scalded my when I bought my 156 with a $1500 bill, so I will be cautious to check up on that. But otherwise, what do we think!?

Cheers guys :)

I'd just like to add, seen as we're discussing the technical aspects of this vehicle, it does fit into this section of the forum :)

1500 is about right over here .
They start from as little as £650 ish .
A lot of people are put off by insurance and running costs that and due to the price of fuel the market is not good for petrol cars over here.

They are as cheap here also , unbelievable innit .
UK have a roadworthy yearly check called an MOT , ministry of transport check . Another consideration .

Looking again at the ad no mention of M.O.T. ( Road worthiness )Or road tax .
Tax will be £140 ish for 6 months.
I can't see you making any money on top of this though. It's about all it's money.
Hope this helps.

Would also recommend doing a vehicle owner/history check just to be on the safe side.

Oh yeah, 100%. I lived in the UK for 16 years so I'm familiar with vehicle ownership practices, although I was never of age to own one!

First thing I'll do is a HPI check (or whatever they're called nowadays)

If it's got more than a few months tax and is within MOT time, It looks like a winner to me.

Seen some garbage actually SELL at 1500quid, this looks genuinely like a good motor.

Making a profit doesn't bother me too much, before I looked into renting a car, I was expecting to have about a grand go up in smoke just in rental costs and the premiums for under-25s!

Cheers for your input so far!

There is an Alfa specialist called Mark located in the north of Liverpool. Might be worth asking him if he could bob over and have a look. His website is Home - MotoTech or pm me your email address and I'll pass it on as he only lives over the road from me and has looked after my 147 for the last couple of years.

Thanks for that, I'm going to mull this one over, if it is still available tomorrow and I've double checked service history, tax etc, I'll put a hold on it and give this Mark fella a call (found his number on the website!)

Thanks again for the info :)

Also, is there anything in particular I should be looking out for when I do my inspection of the 147?
