Is there anything better than a GT.....?

I'm struggling to come up with an alternative....no, really....any alternative.

The GT looks great, drives superbly, economical (when doing 18K a year it has to be), spacious, comfortable, decent boot, grown ups can sit in the back (even behind me and I'm 6'2"), it's a hatchback, the rear seats fold down, it goes link stink, insurance is reasonable(Ok I'm 51 with full no claims), in short it does everything. And, arguably the best thing....there ain't another one in the car park.

I've had it for 2 relatively painless years, get great support from this group and a decent local Indie for servicing.

The only thing, for me, at present that would be better is a newer GT. Sure, there are cars I imagine I *might* own one day, but right here and now there's nothing else I'd rather be behind the wheel of.

What a car!!

All the best

So you like it then? :)

I've had 2 and can't argue with anything you say, i just fancied a but of a change so recently got a 159Ti which i'm enjoying just as much. I hope one day to get another GT, hopefully a 3.2 V6 to use at the weekends :wow:

What about a Brera?? Similar to what you've already stated and also looks the dogs dangles.
I'm trying to talk my missus into chopping her 306cc in for a GT, not quite there yet

I did state similar, Also OP is of an age where he really doesn't have to consider rear setting, so as he considers a change the Brera is still worth a look. Nothing against the GT she's a beaut, The only reason I'm not in possession of one is I have 3 kids under the age of 4!!!

I also recently started thinking about what I could replace my GT with, and I can't come up with anything reasonable. The closest I could think of was a BMW 3 series Coupe, but honestly, while the spec is good I couldn't stomach it in my garage. Needs to be a sporty but practical coupe and I'm stuck for ideas....

I still miss my '83 GTV6 so it may be that I hold on to this GT until I emegrate.

To fulfill all your needs as per post then the only thing is.....

.....an Alfa GT SE Q2 1.9 JTDm 16v in Ghiaccio White.....

.....or is that just me?

ah nev how are you. did you get a cinebench score on your pc
i think the show brera was truly lovely. but somthing got in the way to slightly muddy the water. could it be that it is a vauxhall with the alfa badge on it. only joking. me and the wife looked at the brera and loved it but the gt has that curious alfa romeo thing about it in a similar way to other berties or a zagato penned design. and hasn't Giorgetto Giugiaro just souled out to old walter da silva's
new emlpoyer.
mmmm things are getting thinner on the ground

i think audi A5. i know there's lots of them about and a hi spec'ed one would be ÂŁÂŁÂŁ.

I love my 2006 GT with its red leather, had it for 3 years and couldn't imagine selling it. Would i buy a brand new one and fork out 23k, not a chance. I love the interior for a car thats now worth about ÂŁ9k ...for ÂŁ23k it is outdated. The suspension is pants, its sits too high, the standard stereo and speakers a joke and still have a rattley boot despite trying everything.

Just to re-iterate, prolly never sell her, but would never pay new or nearly new car money for one.

will i get banned for this post?

Not at all, From ME any way. Alfa's Brand new offer pants in value brand new due to their rapid depreciation, but offer boats loads in 2nd hand value. I'd never buy a new Alfa, but always a 2nd hand one!!! Can't beat em for quality n spec n all:thumbs:

Go for the GT. In it's 3.2 guise it's such a special car as I'm sure the 156 GTA is but the GT is just that bit more modern looking and as it's a coupe you will feel that extra special when you drive it

p.s I know it's not quite as quick as the GTA but a remap and induction will sort that ;)

I personally if I didn't have a baby would probably buy a 147 GTA again if I had the choice of the 'fast' Alfas. In the short time I had it; it got more attention than all of the rest of My Alfas put together

The 159 is a great alternative to the GT ( I wouldn't say better though).....it's a mighty fine looking car for a saloon. I do miss my GT though but not the shake, rattle and rolls that came with it. My ideal Alfa is a Brera as I just love the styling but with a 12 year old lad and a 6 month old baby it's never going to happen

this is why i look forward to nevs 10 penceworth. if you like butter he likes marg and if someone else likes marg then it won't be as good a brand as he likes.
superb.
also if you have chips then he'll p on them. a really positive chap from his repertoire of replies. anyway this is going off topic. but i do enjoy his 10 p worth.

Lol, Nev how can you say that the GT is a parts bin special as a reason for it not being as good as a Brera, when the Brera is just as much a parts bin special as a GT?

147 is a 156 with different body and a couple of inches taken out of the wheelbase, GT is a 147 built on the 156 wheelbase and with a restyled a*rse end and lower roof, Brera is a 159 with a shorter wheelbase and a restyled a*rse end-theyre ALL parts bin specials!

The Brera is a looker, cant comment on how it drives cos never driven one, but when I sat in one I couldnt believe they even bothered with rear seats theyre so useless-why not save the weight and not bother ?

Cant understand why ppl are slagging off Beemers, I wouldnt want one, but you cant deny their ride/handling/build quality/resale value/efficiency are some of the best in the industry.

Cant see why an Alfa driver would want an Audi either-they might be well built but theyre known for a stupidly hard ride and rubbish handling with no feedback (especially the steering)

Ah, but when you have to have 4 seats due to a work car rule
then they are perfect. (But not so good as to encourage people to
keep asking for lifts. ;))

Whoops sorry I clip-clopped over your bridge. :(

Whilst you're here what is this "cinebench" ?

I dont think he was having a go, Nev-to me he sounds like he was saying your opinions are different but that he enjoys reading them.

Anyways, you think the parts bin special Brera is better than the parts bin special GT, then.
