Hey guys, got the chance to buy a 2002 Alfa 147 1.6 with 115,000 miles on the clock, 1 month tax and MOT until December for £300. It could do with timing belt changing and no idea how it'll do with the MOT, but £300 seems too good to turn down?!

Is it worth it?

I'd take a chance at that price if the test drive went ok

Thanks all,

I'll give the car a look over tommorow. My plan is to buy this, run it for a month then maybe trade it in against a used alfa at an alfa dealers, hoping they will give me more than I paid for it! I'll be able to trade this and my Punto in against something nicer hopefully :)

Took her for a drive today and no major problems it would appear! It had oil on the dipstick, but apparently it goes through oil quite fast, is this normal for these cars? It does need its timing belt changed, anyone got a rough price for this, based in the north east of England. The interior is beige which isn't very nice!

Anyone had more than 115k our of the 1.6ts?

Here she is, covered in dust:

Someone in the North East lounge has over 200k on a 1.6. They are good for it, just change the belts when they are due and keep the oil full.

One of my mates has a garage in Richmond and is well versed in Alfa belt changes - you'll be looking at at least the same price as you've been offered the car for, though, as the parts aren't cheap...

Call Glen on 07967723741 if you want him to give you a price......

I reckon the car is well worth that, though - if you don't buy it I might......:)

That's the top range, does it have a volume control on the steering wheel, climate control(digital display of temperature) and cruise control on the steering rack then the answer is yes. Definitely get the cam belt done and get it service by an alfa specialist just for your peace of mind and you will adore her.

Sounds like you've got yourself a bargain there! Like others have said, make sure you keep an eye on the oil, mine's a 1.8 and doing average mileage, I find I'm topping up between 5 and 8 weeks. Most jobs can be more than you'd expect from other manufacturers, but I'd say don't get too worried about it and enjoy the car!

Happy driving :)
