My 2002 156 Sportwagon is suffering from a 4th gear that is sometimes there and sometimes not. I know this is likely to be because of a build up of swarf in the gearbox. What I can't find is what it is likely to cost to get it fixed. Anyone had it done recently who'd care to share? I'm near Watford.

As I understand it, the fix just involves unbolting the endplate from the gearbox, cleaning everything up, refitting the endplate with good sealant and refilling the box - not a big job, really - I hope - 'cos I've got to do it on one of mine.....If you're putting it into a garage I'd have thought maybe a couple of hours labour.
