My local (new to) Alfa agent tells me I'll have to pay £15 per day insurance if I have a loan 159 while my car is having an estimated 2 days of warranty work done. I told them I'd rather use the bus.
My current F/C insurance covers me for driving a car not owned by me, but only TPFT. If I'm not driving my car for these 2 days, then why doesn't my policy cover me F/C for the loan car? (previous Alfa dealers have let me have the pick of their demo cars without mentioning insurance)
I've raised this with my insurance company, but haven't heard their reply as yet.

I've never really thought about this before, but I would have thought your dealer would have special dealer insurance, surely. If in fact such a thing exists.

Dealers normally have their own insurance, which they pay a daily rate for, so they are not paying while the car is not being used. That includes both loan cars and demonstrators. £15 sounds about right for a daily charge from a dealer, but it will cost the dealer less than this.

Did you buy your car from them or another dealer??

If you brought the car from that particular dealer then I would expect them to extend you the use of a courtesy car free of charge, but they are not obliged to.

I think this varies from garage to garage, and from insurer to insurer. I've just had my 156 in at a main dealer for some warranty work, and have had a loan car from them (nearly 4 weeks now!!). But they said I would have to cover it under my own insurance - my insurers said, yes no prob, but only up to 4 weeks. The only extra charge was a flat £10 "admin charge" which isn't bad. There were no extra charges.

Having said all that, when I have taken my current Alfa (and previous ones) to the specialist I usually use (Deens, Hampton Court), they just gave me a car to use and it cost me nothing. My experience is that specialists are usually better about this sort of thing - if they have a spare car available.

My insurers did say that most people try to claim back any extra charge from the dealer, but I can't see that being a goer. Anyway for a tenner I'm not going to bother.

But what insurance cover did you have?
