Hi..i have a problem with my front indicators, when i have my lights on both front sidelights flash as well as the indicator..this happens whichever indicator i turn on..
also when i switch on the alarm the sidelights flash instead of the indicators.
I'm assuming it's probably a dodgy earth...how do you get to the back of these lights?...do i need to remove the front bumper?..if so how do i do that?...or could it be a dodgy indicator/light switch?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks
Snowy.

Carefully prise the reflective inner ends off the fog light units ( there's a very small recess to enable a screwdriver ). Undo the two identical screws, leave the third one with the plastic collar alone - that adjusts the fog light aim.

Wiggle the unit towards the middle of the car to release the pin at the other end.

Did you check the wiring? The connectors aren't keyed to a particular bulb. It is quite possible that the connectors are on the wrong bulbs.

I'm assuming you still have the '99 Spider ...

For the plugs to have been swapped around, someone would need to have been fiddling. Has anyone needed to remove the bumper or lights recently?

Fog lamp wires should be brown
Sidelight wires should be : Left Yellow/Black, Right : Yellow
Indicator wires should be : Left Light Blue/Black, Right : Light Blue

Other things to check -

There's a multiway connector just behind the bumper near the windscreen washer pump/headlight on the nearside. Worth checking that's OK.

The earth is on a metal upright between the headlamp and radiator.

everything was ok the last time we used the car about two weeks ago...there has been no work on the car at all to have interferred with the lights...i need to chase up the earth connection... it can't be wrongly connected because the indicator and the sidelight both flash at the same time...although the indicator is very faint...and also the indicators work ok when the lights are turned off..
Thanks for the help guys!

I'd be inclined to go back to basics at this stage.

I'd probably disconnect the bumper loom at the connector near the nearside headlamp and with a meter, test each wire on the car side. That is, switch on the sidelights and test for 12v on the correct wire and make sure that only that wire has 12v. Repeat for fog lights and indicators ( twice for indicators - once each side ). Also test the ground wire. If all that is OK, then remove the connectors from the bulbs and test each wire within the bumper for shorts on the bumper side of the connector.

Yay!!!...sorted.
Turned out to be a break in the insulation on one of the earth wires at the multiway connector on the side to the light units, it was almost right inside the connector so very easy to miss, as i wiggled it it snapped away so i just connected that wire to a good earth point on the body and Bingo!..all working perfectly..
The earth wire must have been picking up a live feed through the break in the insulation...a bit of dampness probably in there too.
Thanks for all the help guys.
