I've had the same rant with 9 children..........the last 2 being twins which meant 2 of everything......

I blame my mum and dad......if they could afford it, and sometimes when they when they couldn't, I know I was a spoilt child.........
Not spoilt as in mega rich, just a working class family who sacrificed things for themselves to provide for me and my sister...
I allways feel that it is my place to do the same.........

Well my oldest is a totally different creature, she asks for nothing .. works and is starting Uni in the next few weeks.. The youngest however.. she thinks she is entitled to everything .. put it down to her friends and such .... I have done nothing different with either of mine :)

I am greatfull .. believe me ... :D

Nope ... she has been this way since she was 10 .....

I'm at my wits end with her ... friends have told me to let her earn her own cash and see what its like to earn the money .....

She needs to know how hard money is to earn and how easy it is to spend it ....:)

After yesterday and today and over 1k lighter in my purse .... I'm inclined to for with this option .. a life lesson needs to be learnt right now here I think .... :D

If she wants her Dior Make up and designer clothes ect .... she should realise just how she has to work to earn it .... :D

Jules's solution, "if you want to live like a pig and do not like what is in the fridge MOVE OUT" she has until October, she is 18 next week, does nothing but moan and thinks she has a god given right to have and do what she wants with no consequences, no responsibility whatsoever, it will be so funny when they move and have the baby, welcome to the REAL WORLD...............

(Jules and i will catch them when the fall, well not straight away:rolleyes:)

Kids today really do not realize just how good they have it compared to when we were younger .....
That's correct but we should not begrudge them the improvements in health, life and finances which occur each generation. I saw a statistic last week which demonstrated that personal wealth, on average, doubles every generation.

The point I am trying to make here is ... if she wants the nice things ... she has to earn them from this point onwards...
till now she has had everything to her on a plate .. but not anymore ...:)

Agree 100% Joe, been through the same. A very difficult gameplay here because asking or demanding a daughter adjust her expectations is tricky. Push too hard and she'll just go teenage contrarian for years.

And also do bear in mind that she's still forming a personality so it's normal to have to rub off a few rough edges before a decent, rounded personality arrives.

All we did in similar situation was to point out the logic of getting a weekend job and provide a bit of help with jobhunting. Weren't too aggressive about it. Also we gave cash bonuses for GCSE results (mercenary I know, but it worked).

Both daughters have to pay for their own clothes, social life and when it comnes time for that driving lessons and insurance.
