3 months & you've never checked the oil level  You should check it every week or two at the most. It only takes a few minutes & could save you destroying an engine which won't be covered under warranty.

Also don't rely on the oil light to tell you the level is low, the damage will already be done at that stage.

Which engine is it?

I'd check the oil, top up with the correct grade of oil
if necessary and then see if that fixes it.

If not you'll have to get it checked out by the dealer.

Rattle on other Alfa engines used to be caused by a number
of things including lose heatshielding, the variator and such like.

Check your oil anyway. Then get it into your dealer who'll be able
to look at it and give you better feedback than we can from on here. ;)

You are aware of the freezing alternator/drivebelt issue, right?

adf how would you descibe the sound?

It has a sound that reminds me of a small diesel, that's my interpretation. Doesn't sound like anything is loose, it's a sound that reminds me of a small diesel. I can't explain it better than that, I know nothing is wrong with the car so I'm happy. I can't hear it when I'm in the car, I only hear it when I get out of the car to close and lock the garage door.

The noise you describe certainly sounds variator-ish.
But I don't even know if they have them on those engines.

I think I have the only Alfa in the village  so I have nothing to compare it to but in all other respects it performs brilliantly..... for a 95hp

Lots and lots of people have commented on the sound when the engine is cold being like a diesel and it goes away once the engine warms up so I assume it's normal.
