i know there has been mentions bout consumption but i just wana ask if thats normal to you v6 drivers, i put £72 to fill it up and then at 204 the light came on, how many miles do u get when the light is on and does that sound good to u, i have dun a mixture of drivin town and a-roads, what gets me is that i aint put my foot down a lot durin that fill up

They undoubtedly vary, but that seems appallingly low to me. I tend to fill mine right to the top (around £70-£75!!!) and run it 'til the light flashes, then fill it up within the next 10 or 15 miles. I have never had less than 300 miles from that and would tend to get nearer 330 TBH.

What you need to do is fill it now and see how much it takes so you can accurately work out an mpg. Mine seems to come in between 25 and 30, depending on the type of use.

I put £40 in the other day, I only use V-Power so I got around 32 litres (7 gallons) for my money. For those 7 gallons I drove a mixture of urban/motorway and, of course, hard. I got about 150 miles out of it; working out at around 21-22 mpg. So I'd be looking at getting 300+ miles to a full tank.

Not great, but where the GTV suffers is definitely around town, the needle hardly moves on the open road but get caught in traffic and it drops like a stone.

I guarantee that high octane fuel yields better performance and economy. I've not done a test on the Alfa but my Corrado VR6 gave around 30-40 extra miles per tank with Optimax compared with regular fuel. The Corrado - with it's Schrick inlet and other bits - was far better on fuel than the GTV is, but any car will benefit from spending those few extra pounds each time you fill up.

Cheap fuel is a false economy.

Yesterday on a run to Hemel Hempstead from Tarleton I filled up before I left and filled up when I was down in Hemel. The distance is 200 miles or so, when I filled up in Hemel I only had to put a shade under 30 litres in. Brief calculations:

30litre = 6.5991 Gallons
200/6.5991 = 30.31 MPG!!!

I did usual motorway speeds and even had a drag race at the M6 Toll.

Not bad I thought, oh and I only use V-Power if at all possible.

my engine has all the servicing and its done 5k
But what servicing? What age is it? Have plugs been changed for a start?

Problem can be that due to low mileage cars can get little more than a quick look over at service without much parts being changed - Remember that parts degrade with time as well as age!

I usually fill up within 5 - 10 miles of light coming on, 58 litres fills it to the brim (£68) Doing mostly town driving wit the odd bit of A road I get around 240 -245 (18 -19 to the gallon), although had to fill up yesterday at 214 miles And 57 litres - Too frightend to work out consumption as it will be less than 18.

Having read other threads I realise that my thermostat is proberly stuck open as I did a 10 mile trip last night and the temp gauge had not reached the first white mark between cold and 90 degs. This will certainly cause worse fuel consumtion.

I also have a heavy right foot 90 percent of the time:)

I stopped at a petrol station last Thursday less than a mile after the light came on. I put in 45 litres of standard unleaded @ 114.9p a litre (£51.70 total) and my light has just come on again after 182miles of 30min straight runs to and from work and various short trips around town. 45litres is 9.91gal. 182 divide by 9.91 is 18.4 mpg

### waiver: i dont guarantee that my maths is correct ###

Well V6s on this forum have been known to do as little as 7mpg on trackdays.. So if you really are caning it everywhere, don't expect decent consumption. That said, I don't do too badly. On the AO run to Penrith I did 27mpg, when I went to AutoLusso to get my Q2 fitted I got 29mpg. The Alfa V6 loves steady driving at 60-70mph. That is where you will get decent consumption. Town is a big no-no. On the 7-mile-each-way run to work on York's traffic-clogged bypass mine does 18mpg.

Fella in my poor baby that i may have written off see ( I have crashed, please help ) i never got more than 220 miles off a full tank and that was driving with my right foot like a feather, i do however live and work in the city and only do a 5 mile run. I always use V power.

Ok i had the same replies as you my friend, Change the thermo, change this change that the Lambda all sorts, of which i did all in the search of better economy and none of it works. Just have to get used to the idea that some V6's drink petrol like its corona :)

Still praying to the gods i get my baby back :(

Yesterday as i was just setting off to work my fuel light came on.
20 miles to work - got there and back without refueling.
If its 9 litres left when the light comes on(not much more than a gallon) I must have been getting a pretty good MPG.
Never went above 2500rpm though

Alfa dem:

There is no sorcery in how most people here are getting the mileage they are. In the case of Andyroo75, that's to be expected. Nine litres is basically two gallons (4.54 litres / 1 gallon), so him managing twenty miles on two gallons is no surprise, is it?

If you cannot manage over 200 miles on a full tank of decent fuel during "normal" driving conditions then may I suggest these:

1. Check your tyre pressures: if you're running the standard 205/16 or 225/17 then the pressures are: Front 2.7 (39 psi) - Back 2.5 (36 psi). Incorrect (low) tyre pressure is probably the main cause of bad fuel economy, and it quickly knackers your tyres!

2. Check the Lambda probe/sensor is operating correctly and also the integrity of the connecting wires. A Lambda can appear to be working fine but actually be relaying wrong information, thus giving you terrible fuel economy.

3. Check that spark plugs and air filter are optimal. Either - especially a dirty air filter - can have an adverse effect on fuel economy.

4. Turn off the A/C. If you have it turning on automatically when starting the car then there is a short guide in the manual showing you how to turn this "feature" off. If you don't have it PM me and I'll reply with it. ;)
