I just have only ONE 4 digits code, printed on paper stripe. I didn't know that there was an other 4 digits code (maybe one for each key ? strange, i would thing it would rather one single code for the receiver in the car).

The other problem is that I live in France, and I would prefer not to send an electronic parts of my gtv by mail in Great Britain, and it seems to be the only way to reprogram it.http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/images/icons/icon5.gif

As far as I understand it, and correct me if I'm wrong, but each remote has it's own 4-digit code. As described above you can remove and send your receiver to someone who can recode it all for you, but if you're reluctant to send in just the key then this isn't an option for you either.

I sent my keys by recorded post. Chris is also a thoroughly decent chap and unlikely to lose your keys!!

OK, I understand. The problem is that I already tried to repair the broken fob on the key, by sending it to a "specialist" in France (letelecommandier.com). Unfortunatly, he couldn't repair, saying me that processor was "burned", and that it was impossible to do (I thing it was an honnest diag because he sent me my money back).

So, I thing the only options for me are :

- Find the second 4 digit code (maybe I'm going to call another time an Alfa garage, to know if they can find that code in a database)

- Find someone who can reprog my receiver, or find in it a 4 digits code that match

- else .... I don't know

i believe to get the code you have to send the receiver to someone that can read eproms and can decipher the code??

there is some info on AO about this, not sure where,

hopefully someone more knowledgeable can answer for you.

yeah,, the original poster is from australia, so im sure you can mail it safely... as SA is closer...

Just letting everyone know that I sent my one and only "working" remote key to Tony from Australia on 21/2/13. He received the key on 1/3/13 and advised me of the "code" same day and posted key back that day. I followed the instructions in post #1 and have a second key that now has a working remote. Should get original key back early next week.

Thanks for the comments, here's some extra comments for anyone contemplating getting the remote to synchronise.

Postal service has never yet failed to deliver the goods - except once, on that occasion the postman in Bristol could not be bothered to climb upto some flats to deliver the item. It was returned to me 10 days later.

Paying for courier service is usually a waste of money, - they tell lies about their delivery time, its far quicker by mail service.

You do not need to send the whole key, just the green PCB inside. If it was to get lost a replacement can always be purchased s/h, and the key and car can still be used.

The processor chip on the PCB does sometimes stop working, I suspect the batteries fitted incorrectly could cause this.

The key unlock code cannot be read directly from the processor. A spare ( open) receiver is used to load the key. The eeprom from the receiver is read and the code is derived from that.

I can offer free unlock code from a dump of the eeprom in receiver, but be sure that whoever is doing the reading is a competant and tidy worker. Its easy to wreck a small circuit board.

Oh, and yes I have sent several to SA amd African continent.

Just one question: I bought a GTV last year, but I only got the master key (the brown one). I have copied it and now I have two aditional keys, but I miss the remote. It's imposible to find here any gtv key, but some of 156 phase 1. Do you know if they are compatible? I mean, can I take one of those 156's key and send it to Tony to find out the code and then use it on my gtv?

You will not find any remote keys in local garages or shops. They can be ordered direct from main dealers though, just stipulate that you dont want them cut if you are unsure whether the locks etc have been changed.
The pic shows 2 remotes one is a Fiat Punto/Bravo type the other is Alfa - they both will operate the remote and the blades are the correct profile.
It is possible to buy a used remote and heat up the blade to insert a new one, thats really the last resort though - and I would not do that.

As I said, I can get remote keys from an old alfa 156 (with no cost). But PCB inside it is not the same as gtv's key.

Looobz said in the initial post, that he needed the one on the left ( I'm sorry but I don't know how to quote a pic), but 156's circuits are like the one on the right.


I have a key that allows me to get into the car and start it (key blade and transponder fully functional). My intention is to take the blade and the trasponder out, and put them in the 156 key. Just want to know if the circuit of the 'new' key will operate and open my car.

Dont know what a 156 key looks like, so cant answer that. I would suggest to get the correct key and go from there.

That is an infra red key as in description. I also doubt the coverage of cars quoted in the ad.
I only repair remotes using radio. Pics of units are as in previous pics.
