Hi,

I can't remove the fuel cap on my 1992 33 1.7 16v QV.. It looks like the key doesn't go all the way in! I've used (alot9 OF WD-40 but to no avail... It contnues not to go in and of course doesn't turn...

How can I remove it? is it possibel to remove the filler neck with the cap on?

Best regards,

Many Thanks BigAl33 :) I had seen that tutorial, but it looks like it's only about fixing the filler cap when it's already out... I still need to get it out, and I'm not liking the idea of forcing it open...

Anyone got an Idea how the filler neck is attached to the car?

all the best

The filler neck goes all the way down to the tank. You would have to drain the fuel tank if you wanted to remove it.
Try drilling a 3mm hole in the cap through the plastic and metal bits below. If you then push a 3mm nail into the hole, it should lock the parts and allow you to unscrew the filler cap. I have done this on a couple of Fiats and it worked OK but not on a 33 as yet.
Cheers,

Very tricky to remove, under the wheel arch is a large plastic locking ring nut to secure filler cap to top of rubber hose down to plastic hose to tank, clean plastic locking nut WD40/airline, feel around the plastic locking ring nut there is a hole on the side of the plastic ring, push a small screwdriver to release, hold filler cap from outside while turning from under wheel arch slowly..
Soak in WD40 when removed the key barrel will be seized.Good luck..

Well thanks guys for the help!

I finally got it open today... without taking it apart or using the sledge hammer that had been crossing my mind... I left it soaking in "nearly" a can of WD40 sprayed in the keyhole... Today I went for another try... Inserted the key and gave it a gentle but sturdy tap towards the inside so that key might enter completly... and voilá!!!! it went in and turned (a bit jerky but still... it worked! :-D)

I took the cap off and spray more wd40 on it... and used a teflon based lub-spray... and it seems to be working smoothly... :)

Well it's a simple thing but I'm relieved... LOLOLOL

I haven't driven her on the road for quite some years but nealy every week I put the engine running and take for a drive around the block... so it's a relief that it was a simple but temporary fix (got to do that overall cap repair...) so that I can continue to feed her with 98ron petrol :)

All the best
