My 59 plate 1.4 16v 95hp has now done 9000 miles and I've topped her oil up twice, using in total about 250ml (Quarter of a litre) I was wondering whether that's good or bad. What are other Mito owners experience of oil use?

Hey Pat,

My old 95bhp used quite a bit of oil over the 12 months I had it. Had to top it up quite (worryingly) regular, for whatever reason!

As for the QV - not a drop used (although the oil has been changed once, and it's a year old).

P.S - 95bhp had about 9,000 miles on the clock at 12 months, and the QV has 15, 000 miles on the clock at just over 12 months.

My last car never touched a drop of oil and that had done 110,000 miles when I got rid of it. I'm not used to a car that like a bit of a drink  I wonder if it will get better or worse with mileage ?!?!

1 oil change @ 2500 now on 7000 not used a drop  makes a great difference to the 2.0 TS which used nearly more oil than petrol in 80k + :tut: though in it's defence it never varied in its love of the blackstuff.

Don't worry mine was topped up quite a bit before i changed her at 10,000, for some reason mine too did seem to burn alot in its first 10000 miles :/

My old Clio barely used any between oilchanges (which I did myself every 10000 miles)

So far my Mito 1.3JTDM-2 hasn't seemingly used any in 10300 miles :)

(Thought the tortuous course of its dipstick 'wand' makes it hard to get
a consistent reading :( Who designs such stupid stuff  )

I wouldn't worry ADF. Whilst some owners report no usage, the amount that your car has consumed is not in any way 'over the top'.

Some engines use a little more oil than others....and there are so many factors involved that you are bound to see differences.:)

Even the oil used will have a factor. The GTA used to like a glug of Selenia....but she barely touches Castrol Edge!

The important thing is that you check your oil regularly....so many people don't bother

In 4 years I've only had to fill my wee Clio up 2 twice with oil. Once because it didnt have any (wasnt long after passing my test) and 2nd because it dumped it all over the street when it's sump rusted through. Pesonally I think it just wanted to copy the Mito with it's coolant leak. Nice group of puddles out side my house lol.
