Hi guys.
My 156 V6 has started to make rattling sound from underneath cambelt cover.Spoke to a specialist and hes sure its the tensioner playing up.
Obviously need to get sorted ASAP.
Cars done 50k and Alfa say should last 72k on a V6 but havnt we heard this before? anyway Ive been quoted £395 to do the job which seems reasonable as some garages want £600.
However Ive since spoke to my Grandfather whos just his Citroen Xsara 1.8 16v done by a CITROEN MAIN DEALER(Full cambelt sevice inc tensioners) for £260inc VAT.
Im told the job takes all day to do on a V6 Alfa but then so did the Citroen(a pig of a job as is on an Alfa).
If you also consider a Ferrari specialist advertised in Auto Italia can do a cambelt service on a 360 Modena or a new Maserati for £395 begs the question am I/We being ripped off.
Any thoughts on what is considered a resonable amount to pay for this?

Last time I spoke to an Alfa mechanic it was a 5-hour job for belts. TBH £395 sounds good but if you can get it cheaper go for it...so long as they do a good job. Would the Citroen garage have the camlocks?

The citroen garage was mentioned regarding the cambelt change on a Xsara, so probably no. ;)
