well to start off ive broken my gear box..... i believe its the differential that has gone, but untill i get it off the engine i wont be able to tell....

so at this moment im doing abit of research on the different types of boxes the 156 had...



so how many different gearboxes did the 156 have????

i know the V6's have the 6 speed box but ive got a good feeling that all the other petrol boxes will be different to the jtd box on mine, as a diesel uses more torque so it will have longer ratio gears


anyone know the differences between the gear boxes, and does anyone know if a 6 speed box off a V6 would also fit????

ratios, diffs, number of gears, dual mass flywheels, different manufacturers, etc

the 20v uses a GM box:vomit:

the 10v uses the alfa jtd/v6 box i believe (v6 gets an extra ratio)

8v and 16v similar to above

the twinnys use their own

selespeed same as above but with a computer controlled clutch

and the q-system, which is clever but very complicated

the only option you have is to go for another jtd box. you cant use the v6 box, the ratios are all wrong, and no dmf

You need to get a gearbox from another 2.4 10v, as the bell housing is unique to that engine.

Or you could get your current gearbox rebuilt:

The 5-speed in the 2.4 10v JTD is essentially the same as the 6-speed as fitted to the 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 V6 Alfas, just with a different bell housing and different gear ratios.
