I have tried serching for idle speed, revs & tickover without success so I have had to resort to starting a new thread.

My 156 JTD ticks over at about 600-700revs and you can hear unnecessary noises, if I rev it up to about 800revs (which is where I guess it should be) then the noises go and it sounds nice ticking over.

So my question is "how do I increase the tickover on a X reg 156 2.4 JTD?".

I took a look in the engine bay etc (was good and changed my air filter today and realised where one of the bolts was the plastic had broken and someone tried to bodge it so I made sure I bodged it properly as to seal it nicely) but I couldn't see anything to adjust the tickover.

Any ideas anyone?? I am soo reluctant to go to Alfa as that is the last place on this earth I want to visit. The car itself drives superb it just a bit low on the tickover. I don't use the AirCon so that can't be it. I have put in injector cleaner (as I do with any change of car I get), oil, oil filter & fuel filter have been done and naturally now the air filter. I have checked everywhere I can for any air leaks etc but can't find anything.

Thanks to all for looking :)

Its a diesel, it won't sound nice at tickover. I too have an x reg 2.4, it doesn't sound too good at tickover especially when its cold but give it some happy pedal and it sounds far better. I've got 111k on the clock now so I wouldn't worry about it, the engines are fantastic, just watch for rust under your arches
